Oil Change

Modern Vehicles

Thanks to improved manufacturing, better engine materials and high-quality synthetic oils, many modern vehicles can now go much longer between oil changes.

According to AAA, most automakers now recommend oil change intervals between 5,000 and 7,500 miles for vehicles using conventional oil. If your car requires full-synthetic motor oil, that range extends to 10,000 to 15,000 miles.
While modern engines can go longer between oil changes, some driving conditions may still require more frequent maintenance. Car and Driver notes that "severe service" conditions include:

  • Frequent short trips (under five miles in normal temperatures or under 10 miles in freezing temperatures)
  • Stop-and-go traffic in extreme heat
  • Driving on dusty, muddy or gravel roads
  • Towing heavy loads or driving at low speeds for extended distances
  • Track driving or off-roading
If your vehicle falls into any of these categories, you may need to change your oil more often. Miles not Ks miles!!!

I think the C8 manual calls for every 12,000 k . Doing mine today though at 5,400 km . Get the break in oil out . Next one with the TX service. Oil cheap. Engine expensive.

I have known this for years. My dad use to change his oil at 7500 miles even when they used to say 3000 miles. His pick up trucks never blew an engine. I have been doing the same thing for years. When my Ks said time to change I would just reset it. Those were Mustangs GTs. Remember I drag raced all of them or did beautiful burn outs. :p This car though is so full of gadgets that maybe they know if you did or not , I am not sure I can take the chance of losing my extended warranty. :rolleyes:When the warranty is done with that will be another story. These engines,6.2, also have a history of being tough/great engines. Yes I know about the pick ups. Synthetic oils make a big difference. A mechanic said , under anonymity, that when he would change the oil in cars that used synthetic , and would change at the recommended Ks, he would keep the oil and use it on his cars , his families cars, friends etc. Anyway to each his own. If you have the money to change it any time you want or recommended, good for you. As for me I rather go to the restaurant and have a few extra beers with my extra cash. :p:Hurray:

Amazon has the following 0W-40 Dexos 2 from Mobil 1

Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40 Motor Oil (6x 946 ml) @ 94.00 for 6 quarts, they also have the

Mobil 1 Supercar Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-40, 6-pack of 1 quarts at 127.00

I am not sure of the difference but they are both the same grade and Dexos 2..... Does anyone know the difference?

I found the answer from Bob's the Oil Guy Forum

Mobil 1 ESP X3 vs Supercar Advanced

There is a transition taking place right before our eyes. Mobil-1 ESP X3 presently meets DEXOS 2. Mobil-1 Supercar presently meets DEXOS R. Here's a statement from General Motors regarding the transition of their DEXOS specifications in the coming years:

GM dexos 2 is being discontinued in 2025 and replaced by GM dexos D and GM dexos R. Vehicles equipped with diesel engines that used GM dexos 2 engine oil will use GM dexos D licensed engine oils, while vehicles equipped with gasoline engines will use GM dexos R licensed engine oils of the of the appropriate viscosity grade at their next oil change.

So, it appears that you're a prime customer for either Mobil-1 X3 ESP 0W40 OR Mobil-1 0W40 Supercar. Once the X3 ESP is retired you'll be asking for DEXOS R rated Mobil-1 Supercar 0W40 exclusively.

If I owned some fancy hot rod I'd make my new years resolution to start using Mobil 1 Supercar 0W40 exclusively. Leave the X3 ESP for the tractors and farm equipment. :)

The recommended oil is written on the engine oil filler cap. Do you have a URL ?

Yes. Are you sure you are not on the American site?

So we can change our own oil and still maintain our warranty? Documented with receipts is good enough?
Funny thing is when I bought my used 2023 Forte GT, they wouldn't allow me to do it myself even with receipts as proof. WTF lol..

Btw, I bought Mobil 1 Super Car @ Rock Auto. A little less than from Amazon.
Mobil makes a "0W40 Supercar" European car formula", and a "0W40 Supercar Dexos" specified by GM. They're apparently not the same thing. Is the RockAuto product Dexos?

I still have a couple 5 liter jugs of 0W40 Supercar from when I had a Charger Hellcat, would love to use it up in the C8.

I just bought the Mobil1 Super Car oil from Amazon, came out to about 21.00 per quart. I checked last years dealer oil change and they charged me 33.00/quart. I called them up and they said I can bring my own oil to save money. So that works for me. Eventually when my car comes of warranty, I will go to a local Corvette specialist as it will be less expensive.

Further.
Mobil 1 ESP Formula ExxonMobil Oil Corp. dexos™2 0W-40 D20679HJ015
Mobil 1 ESP x3 ExxonMobil Oil Corp. dexos™2 0W-40 D20682HJ015
I think they are making the changes because it wasn’t confusing enough . ;)

What does the 2024 manual say in regards to oil. Mine says Dexos 2. But that has now been rebranded to "Dexos R".
This is what GM says about Dexos.
