Internet and computer security

Massive data breach somewhere.
As has been posted before (I think by 1stvette) you can check if your password has been involved by checking here. Have I Been Pwned: Check if your email address has been exposed in a data breach (https://haveibeenpwned.com/)
Can't win , lol. It would seem though that if all you had ever done was enter your email addresses into HIBP and they had never been compromised that the only thing that would be available to the hackers would be the addresses themselves and not the associated passwords. Different story if in fact an address had been compromised then that would be an issue. Goes to show that changing your passwords on a fairly regular basis is still a good idea. Also a very good idea to use an encrypted email service such as Proton Mail. Thanks for the heads up.

Logins to all mail servers are encrypted. It might be possible to use an unencrypted login but it's hard to do that without bells going off. As far as the email itself you are at the mercy of the receiving site.
Yes logins are definitely encrypted , the weak spot as you point out is if only one party is using a service that encrypts the message itself. If everyone would use encrypted email the problem would be resolved. Weakest link scenario.

Just thought I'd add that for one , Nord VPN will monitor all of your email addresses in real time for leaks on " The Dark Web " . Nice feature. Bitdefender also has the same feature . Saves having to check yourself which few people probably do .
So does Google. I get a report once a month.

Lol. They get more than that from their users . Unless their 27 page privacy policy has been changed. Call me paranoid if you will......there are some capable browsers that don't track you or sell your data to third parties for targeted advertising among other things. And yes having a couple of Android devices I do have a Google ID and Gmail account but don't use them. Just saying. And of course to each their own.

This kind of security has been around for decades. I'm actually surprised it's taken so long to apply it here. Actually. I never thought of it, lol, but it makes sense in hindsight.
Why so few seem to use it when available is beyond me. It's no doubt far far better than passwords. Especially now with the rapid advancements in AI which can fool people into thinking they are actually communicating with their bank or even the CRA for example. Everyday just about there is an article about someone losing large sums to scams.

Although, Like has been said many times on here, You can't fix stupid. Most scammers dupe the ignorant.

Check these guys out if you haven't already. They go after scumbag scammers and in some cases manage to get them arrested and shut down. They are very tech savvy and do this full time. Really interesting to watch as well as satisfying to see what they can do.
