Internet and computer security

1. Passkeys (where available)
2. 2FA (where available)
3. Good password manager - regen all your passwords everywhere and try not to reuse. I use 1Password but plenty of good options out there.
4. Don't click on rando-stuff.
5. Don't divulge your real info unless critical i.e. government, payment processor, you'll got to jail if you lie types of situations etc.
6. Assume any site will be hacked eventually (you may or may never know about it), have a backup plan if needed
7. Email phishing is pretty common, I get a bunch of these, but obviously never pay because goat pr*n is totally legit here I was told. :)
8. CC fraud is pretty common, don't store payment info if you can help it, your password manager is much better at storing payment info from what I've witnessed.
VPN’s have their place as well and the better ones like Nord also do a very good job of add blocking as well as anti malware to a point.

If you care about privacy and don’t mind spending a bit of money stop using Gmail , Yahoo, Outlook etc as they couldn’t be less private. Start using encrypted email like Proton Mail for example.

And stop cooking with cheese…….

Found this if it’s what you’re referring to , lol.

I wasn't asking for solutions. I was pointing out flaws and feature removals.
There are a lot more than just the taskbar (which BTW there is no size option on any of my 11 versions. Neither Pro or Home)
As far as the Network discovery goes it happens on all 5 of my computers. 4 of which have little to no extra apps installed. It's definitely idiot Microsoft programmers that are incapable of building a solid O/S.
Lack of smarts at Microsoft is now a huge issue. They are more worried about "Dark Themes" and "disappearing scroll bars" than they are about building a solid O/S.
Howdy ! I haven’t installed this yet but the indications are that you may be able to resize your taskbar icons . I hope this solves at least one of your gripes. Which are justified I might add …..Windows of all flavours has always been problematic but I have to admit that I do find WIN 11 the best so far once you get it configured to your liking. It is now installed on the majority of machines apparently which could have to due with support for 10 ending soon . Unless you pay for security updates after support ends of course. Dicks . I know a couple of holdouts still using XP . Which arguably was one of the best versions.

The Windows 11 update KB5062553 released in July 2025 is generally considered stable and brings a variety of important features, improvements, and security fixes. It enhances system stability, taskbar functionality (including dynamic icon resizing), accessibility, and fixes several known issues such as graphics settings unresponsiveness and notification sound problems.
This update also addresses multiple security vulnerabilities, including a zero-day exploit, making it important for users to install it for protection. Microsoft has rolled it out automatically to Windows 11 24H2 devices, with manual installation options available if needed.
While the update is stable, some features may still be refined based on user feedback, and troubleshooting options like uninstalling the update are available if any problems arise. Overall, KB5062553 is a recommended and reliable update for Windows 11 users to improve security and performance.

That has been available for years if not from the beginning. I did that already. I think I said that above. I pointed out one or two gripes. 11 is a downgrade form 10 in almost every way. Quit helping me. LOL. Microsoft is losing its battle with Apple one small step at a time.

Nuff said.

Somewhat better than average for some reason…..
Some things are impossible. Like avoiding social media.
Some questions I misunderstood slightly.
Still, I'm happy with the results. One can't hide their head in the sand. You might as well disconnect from the internet.

How true. The only social media that I have any connection to is CCF if it could be considered social media. Although Meta et al have their hooks in so many sites scraping data that it’s impossible to avoid but you can reduce your exposure in several ways. I scored 79 having not included a few of the options for a couple of questions which I didn’t really think made a difference. Interesting quiz though. If one is really concerned they could use the Onion Router ( Tor ) for everything but it’s a bit slow for daily driving.

For anyone wondering why their taskbar icons are small take a look in personalization-taskbar-taskbar behaviours- continue down to “ show smaller taskbar buttons “ . Windows shrinks them when the taskbar is full. Click the drop down and select never. All of a sudden the other day my buttons were shrunk so I got digging and found this setting, selected never and now they are twice the size. I’m not trying to help by posting this…. ;)

For those not familiar. This is a legitimate source of extremely reasonably priced software which I have used several times. They sell license keys to lots of software such as Windows 11 for about $22.00 CAD . Of course as always due diligence on your part for peace of mind.
