They are a battery company they want to sell you batteries. Look at the ratings on a battery charger! Far less output than a car alternator! No but maybe Optima does.
They pointed out the instructions from an ALTERNATOR MANUFACTURER. What did it say? They are a battery company they want to sell you batteries. Look at the ratings on a battery charger! Far less output than a car alternator!
Apparently it would appear that the GM engineers and mechanics don't know what they are talking about, so when in doubt read the owners manual.Nobody knows more than Murray.
I don't care. I've done it all my life. I graduated in electronics. It's pretty simple stuff. A battery charger puts out 10 to 15 amps . A car alternator puts out 100 to 150 amps. Yes, the car needs some of that, but not nearly all. It's not rocket science. They pointed out the instructions from an ALTERNATOR MANUFACTURER. What did it say?
I said nothing about parasitic draw when the car is off. I said the alternator puts out more than enough power to charge a battery. In fact that's exactly what it is there for. The car runs off the battery and the alternator lets it run down a bit and then charges it back up.Apparently it would appear that the GM engineers and mechanics don't know what they are talking about, so when in doubt read the owners manual.
Under vehicle care "Follow the instructions provided with the battery maintainer package to keep the battery charged when not in use. Plug the battery maintainer into the underhood accessory power outlet only. For vehicles without a battery maintainer remove the black negative (-) cable from the batter to keep the battery from running down.
Extended Storage: It is recommended that the battery maintainer package be used. However, if not, remove the black, negative (-) cable from the battery. All vehicle memory settings will need to be reset when the battery power is restored.
I agree with @Murray20c8Quit sending url's! 150 amps is more than enough to charge a battery! END OF STORY!
That is what I said. I heard this from several GM Techs. Here is their view.Guys, here's the bottom line from GM. An alternator on a C8 is NOT DESIGNED to charge a dead battery!
It will ONLY MAINTAIN a FULLY charged battery. A C8 will completely drain a battery in about a month if it is
not plugged into a maintainer and in many cases may not start after sitting for 3 weeks. If you purchased
the battery protection package on your car, I recommend you use it throughout the year if your car is going
to sit more than two weeks. If you did not purchase it the charger is available through our sponsor GM Parts
Depot by contacting Chris and order part #85132786.
The frunk can be completely closed by running the power cord next to the base of the windshield wiper on the
drivers side or beyond the end of the wiper on the passenger side using a microfiber cloth to keep the wire
from touching the paint.
Holiday Inn ……..Sorry, you are wrong. It IS designed to put out more than enough current to charge a discharged battery. Could it damage a battery? Maybe. I have my doubts about that, but don't know. I did take electronics at College, but not up on battery science.

If you have access to a battery charger, not just a battery maintainer/trickle charger, connect it and follow the instructions that come with the charger. Some have an “ activation “ setting for completely discharged batteries for example. Check the battery voltage after charging and you should see somewhere around 12.8 volts with the engine off. If not there probably is an issue with the battery that charging isn’t going to help. Reconnect the battery, start the vehicle and drive it. You will find out before too long if the issue is fixed. If not go to Canadian Tire and get a new battery with posts in the same location and buy a “ Battery Tender “ and use it . If the frunk was open the light in there was probably on and if you have engine lighting option they would likely be on with the lid open. That would OBVIOUSLY drain the battery.Hello:
the battery of my 2024 C8 was completely dead, I jumped started the C8 fine with a booster but after 5 mins the engine stopped, I re-jumped the C8 and again the engine stopped.... I then tried to jump start the car with my other car but it would not start, looks like the C8 can't get enough juice. Do you think I need a new battery as this battery can't take the charge? (BTW the headlights is on auto mode, and I'm indoors, is the headlight drawing current ... the rear and front trunk was opened also, is this a safety feature?) thks
I’m no expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night…..Holiday Inn ……..
Most, if not all, GM cars have had battery run down protection for a decade at leastIf the frunk was open the light in there was probably on and if you have engine lighting option they would likely be on with the lid open. That would OBVIOUSLY drain the battery.
Just curious but how does that work ? Headlights turn themselves off as do interior lights after a predetermined time but I’m not sure about the frunk and trunk . Wouldn’t be hard to find out obviously but an interesting question for sure. By monitoring battery voltage level perhaps ?Most, if not all, GM cars have had battery run down protection for a decade at least
The lights shut off after 5 (10?) minutes. So if you leave the trunk or a door open it won't drain your battery like it used to in the olden days.Just curious but how does that work ? Headlights turn themselves off as do interior lights after a predetermined time but I’m not sure about the frunk and trunk . Wouldn’t be hard to find out obviously but an interesting question for sure.

My '22 voltage swings from ~12.4-5v to ~14.2-5v within a second or so. Dealer says this is normal. Is this normal? What is the battery voltage showing on the dash? Running, I usually see 14.25 +-.
A battery that is completely discharged, (0 volts) due to a constant load while not running 3 times in a row is likely toast.
Some years ago I had a 1 month old Charger SRT. (Second car, drove it on weekends). The subwoofer amp was keeping the dash radio unit turned on constantly, the screen stayed quite warm. Battery dead. Dealer replaced the amp, charged the battery. It happened again the next week, replaced the radio. Third time, I think they replaced the body controller. Battery wouldn't take a charge, replaced.
I think you'll find that the controller, seeing the 14.5v, is turning charging off by limiting current to the brushes, and it drops the voltage to 12.5My '22 voltage swings from ~12.4-5v to ~14.2-5v within a second or so. Dealer says this is normal. Is this normal?
On a trip from Sauble Beach to Exeter at night, it was steady at ~14.2 volts with the lights on. Voltage at the battery with a volt meter was slightly higher .
Hope the electronics are buffered well. Perhaps a pie filter on the voltage sensing wire of the regulator would smooth out the peaks and valleys.
Cheers, John
