Any news on your ongoing 'battle' with overcharging?

C.

Thanks for asking.

Nothing yet....

The last "offer" I had was he would take off 10% off the bill...

I would have hope by now he would have made an offer to make things reasonable. One thing he said, he did not want me to feel ripped off, and wanted to make things right. Take a guess how I feel right now...

Email me the part numbers and what was charged , and I can give you our costs for you to compare .

:agree:

I never saw a single negative post about Champion, now I know why! They just take them down....:nono:

In this day and age online reviews (facebook, google, twitter, yelp, yellow pages etc as well as forum posts) can have tangible sway on business conduct. If you've exhausted all other options that's one place to look at.

Remember to keep it fair and above board though.

CGC- Have you tried Dennis OSullivan of the KW-Record, Wheels Section or the reporter from the Toronto Star Wheels Section, both of whom have a weekly Q&A for such issues as you have?

The Star's reporter's name escapes me at the moment but I can retrieve it from tomorrow's paper.

KW Record's reporter Dennis O. Sullivan's email is: [email protected]

Good luck,
Colin.

Thanks for the suggestion Colin. CGC followed your advice

Thank you Boost Master for joining and taking the time to explain your side.
It would seem that more discussion and hopefully more negotiation would be in order to come to terms for both sides.

In light of CGC's position, would you take the discussion one step further (with him) to come to final terms for closure? It seems fair to do so due to the promises made (verbally) to CGC when dropping his truck in for service.

We all look forward to closure on this for everyone's sake.

With respect,
Colin (CCO)

Hi Colin,

When CGC expressed concern with the billed amount we offered a 10% discount which he declined. We then suggested he obtain an independent quote from a legitimate shop on their letterhead clearly indicating the amount of hours XYZ shop would charge for the same work. Over two weeks transpired before CGC produced a quote from an independent shop and to this end we offered to credit CGC back the difference in labour on the quote he received from a Volkswagen shop on his Buick Rainier. Even though CGC agreed up front to this process and us agreeing to credit back the difference he still declined the offer to receive the credit. Furthermore, we did not levy a 60% mark up on any of the parts. This is simply untrue and completely unsubstantiated.

We reiterate

Champion Motors: What you have said sounds fair and equitable to me.

Now that we have heard both sides, I shall endeavour to contact CGC with a suggestion to contact you to hopefully bury the hatchet and come to terms.

Would be nice for you both to shake hands and go on.

I would ask that nobody else comment further save CGC's final statement.

I'm sure everyone here joins me in wishing you both best of luck with the future.

Colin.

That is very true,

Rob from Champion confirmed with me the price I can get the parts for, and he said that is almost his exact cost. If you take my off the street cost, add 60% that is what they are charging me.

This is what General Auto parts would sell them to me:

AC Delco First Line:

Upper ball joint $89 x2 (list was $155) Champion price $ 149.00 x 2
Lower $70 x2 (List was $)122 Champion price $119.00 x2
Water Pump $77.36 (List was $111) Champion price $110.00
Thermostat $43.43 (List was $57) Champion price $56.00
Serpentine belt $49 (List was $88) Champion price $75.00

My cost $487.79 (no dealer discount, I just phoned and that is what they quoted me)
+ 60% = $780.46
Champion total $777.00 (which is 59.3% mark up)

Hmmmm. This does not sound like it will resolve. From my understanding. The work performed by Champion is inline with what is charged by other shops. Businesses do have to make a profit to stay in business. However, the issue here from my understanding was the difference between what the mechanic quoted and what was charged. However, talking with Champion, the discussion between CGC and the Mechanic was a misunderstanding. An unfortunate lesson to talk to the people who run the business as opposed to the people who work there. We'll consider the thread closed.
