Did you try the key in your fob? I've never done this but according to google you need to remove the key from the fob and the keyhole for the trunk release is above and to the right of the rear license plate.

Yes popped trunk ok with fob key but lid is stuck dead in the water thanks for reply

Here's you answer. With a C7 remove your key from the key fob and insert into the hole under your bumper and then turn the key for the rear hatch to pop open giving you access to your battery. See photo. Sounds like you need a battery tender for the winter as well. Scott

Al, I had something similar happen (the battery neg terminal was a touch loose on the post, it turned out, instead of a dead battery, just not enough of a connection to power-release the lid). I used the key from the FOB, and as you noted the hatch/trunk lid only opened part way, and was still latched a bit. After a bit of cussing, and pondering, I pushed the lid back down and held it down, as it wouldn't latch without power, then turned the key and kept it turned while I lifted up the lid.....I believe that by keeping the key "turned" to the release position, it held back the latch mechanism while I lifted the lid past the body latch doodad. Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me - then I retightened the neg terminal and off to the races.

FWIW - won't hurt to give it a try....
