Folks, I ordered a few weeks ago (before the price increase). I'm assuming the cost for mine would NOT be affected right? I see people here saying that they have to deal with price protection? Please elaborate.

You're price if protected from the day your order is submitted and you get a number.. I do know that there has been an exception at dealerships where they have given price protection from the day of deposit, even though no order was submitted...or should I say dealership as only one has done this as I am aware of.
I'm assuming that you're referring to the Order number? I got an order number the day after I ordered. The price increase happened AFTER I got my order number..hoping that I'm safe? Thank you for your input!

I received my order number back in October 2015, my sales manager is telling me I don't have price protection for my 2016 Z51. This is contrary to some of the posts I have read here. Can someone clarify the GM policy on this or if there even is one. Thanks

If this car is the same order number that you had done in Oct 15, of course you are price protected. The GM District Rep that deals with that dealership can explain that. There is a hiccup here. Dealerships can refuse to honor price protection as it is entirely within their right to sell the car at the price that they want. It is not encouraging but it is the truth and, because GM and dealerships are totally independent of one another, GM cannot force the dealers hand, however have been known to clarify for the dealership.

In the two cases that I know of that this has occurred, like yourself, dealers did not do it and explained that it was because they had to fill out additional paperwork in order for that price protection to be valid. I think (but could be wrong) that the difference is actually sent to them after the fact by GM. In others where this occurred and was rectified, dealers just never knew and simply had a tradition of selling the car for the price on the MSRP sticker that arrives with the car.

My steps would be this. I would approach the dealer and explain that you are price protected and the GM District Rep can clarify if they are not sure...politely of course. I would also politely ask if there is a reason they don't want to honor GM price protection. Maybe they REALLY don't know. Concurrently, I would call up GM customer service/support and attack it from that angle. While it is very true that some dealers don't know, it is just as true that others treat this like it is too much trouble.

Did you initial sales invoice quote MSRP as the price when you provided your down payment? Was the car ordered in YOUR name and not the dealerships?

I was very fortunate. I didn't have a deposit, but had asked a few times about allocation at Gateway. On Mar 21, 2014 GM increase the price. I didn't place my order until March 29th and the dealership had only had the allocation for 3 days, but the ivoice was written up with the pre increase pricing on it, but marked "Price Increase Protected?". I assumed I'd be hit with the $3260 price increase and was good with that was just happy to be able to order. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the dealer to to finalize the deal before delivery. The invoice showed the increase price with a discount of 3,260. I asked and was just told George ( then the sales manager ) had worked it out. I didn't get any further explanation and was just happy to get the break.

Price protection is a funny thing. Initially I believed that, in order to get price protection, there had to be a signed document at the time of down payment that identifies that date...and an order had to be input in the buyers name to price protect him. Recently however, I know of two people at WN that had their deposits in, but no order drawn, and WN honored the price as of the date of the deposit, and not the date of the order. This appears to be their policy. Since I cannot believe that WN would give away their profits in the case of price increases between when the down payment was made and when the order was first input, I have to believe that, at least WN can and does price protect from the date of down payment (with GM' blessing), regardless of when the order is input. I don't know of any other dealer that has done this; maybe it is just not spoken of much.

It would be very interesting to know if ALL dealers can do this.

I also had a similar exchange recently about consumer price protection as some dealers in Canada apparently are applying premiums for Z06 sales, or at least some buyers have stated such. In the consumer sales act that applies to such, it does state that the seller has to sell at the listed price...but I couldn't clarify how this applies to MSRP - Manufacturers 'SUGGESTED' Retail Price.

Thanks for all of the input everyone, I really think that they are going to try to slap me with the increase. It's really too bad that there is not consistency when it comes to this issue. In hindsight I should have dealt with WN, they are true pros, it would have been worth the one hour drive versus going local.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with the GM District Rep for Mississauga or Oakville, I really don't want to pay for an increase if I don't have to.
Thanks

Have you approached the dealership and spoken to them with what you learned? They have access to their District Rep. The most important thing right now is to determine if they honestly don't know, or are just not willing to follow the program.

As well....are you dealing with a salesman, or the sales manager directly? They lose no money in you getting your proper price; it is just an administrative process for them.

Also, have you initiated a concern with GM Customer Service and tied it in with your order number? Is the dealership aware that you are also following this route to clarify the process?

I have dealt with the sales manager, regarding my status codes and I also made some minor changes when my code was at 1100 back in November. I ordered the car on October 22nd.
Feb 10th it moved to 3000. As of Feb 29th it was still at 3000. That's when he told me that upon delivery that my price will go up. When I originally built this car online on the GM Canadian website the Blade Silver Paint was a standard no price option. When they built the order at the dealership it was a $500 option. I brought this to their attention and spent several days on the phone with customer service without any resolution, therefore I do not have a lot of faith that customer service will do anything for me. I am going to schedule a face to face meeting with the sales Mgr as soon as possible to try and get some answers. I simply love these cars but GM needs to realize that these issues and inconsistencies tarnish the buying experience. Although this is my first vette It's not my last purchase of this caliber, to me customer service is paramount. Definitely an area that needs improvement at GM if they want to keep my business.

Ok... if there was no price on your order when it went through, the dealer has a point in stating that you were not originally charged for the paint but will be at the end of the day. I thought you were speaking of price increases between then and now. If the original order missed any pricing whatsoever with respect to options, it will be picked up in final paperwork and that is a given, as any of us would understand.

I got lucky with my order and they missed the black caliper cost right through to the final invoice. I honestly believed they understood why many wouldn't want red calipers on a DSOM car.
