Welcome to the forum ! I’m not familiar with the dealer personally but my feeling is that they don’t want to be racking up milage on a vehicle that they are selling as “ new” . There was a thread here a while back about what the odometer reading was on new cars being picked up by members for the first time. I know mine had 5 km on it which was fine as it obviously moves around from the production line to shipping to the dealer but I wouldn’t have wanted to see 50 km on it for a variety of reasons.I am looking to by a C-6 coupe/automatic. My first Vette was a '63' split window way back in 1966. Sold it a year later and bought a 1956 C-1 and kept it for 8 years. Sold it to buy a '55' T-Bird and drove it for 13 years. More recently I have owned an '86' C-4 and the last C-4 was a '91' coupe.
A question I have is regarding Munro Motors in Brantford. They don't allow "test drives" before purchase. Anybody have experience or comments (good or bad) about Munro Motors. Also Lee Munro in Paris has the same "no test drive" policy. What's with that...? I'm not comfortable with that policy....comments...?
No, not at all, rant away. We all do it, lol. I guess I was just trying to upsell you to a C8 ……and yes , you’re absolutely right about test driving a previously owned vehicle. It shouldn’t make any difference to the perceived value of it . Maybe have a word with the sales manager ? Your request is perfectly reasonable. And of course the salesperson can always sit in the passenger seat to keep an eye on things. Thanks for the reply. I have bought probably 40 cars plus 5 pickups over the last 60 years....four of them were Vettes. I have never bought a vehicle that I didn't get to drive it first. I HAVE driven a number of vehicles that I ruled out after driving them.....lol. I guess I'm "old school" with my thinking (I still don't own a Smartphone...lol).
It seems to me ......for example.....that if a C-6 that I'm looking to buy ......has 80,325 kms on it, and I drive it 10 or 20 clicks, now it has 80,365 kms on it, that doesn't harm the sale to the next possible buyer on a 18 or 20 year old Corvette. ....just saying. Besides.......if the car is everything the salesman says it is.......then it would be ME that is the buyer.
I agree that in YOUR case you don't want to see 200 kms on a brand new car, unless it's a demonstrator. As far as a rental or driving a friends C-6, that doesn't tell me anything about the silver 2005 C-6 coupe with 80,365 kms (just an example) at Lee Munro's in Paris for $30,000.00. I want to drive THAT car, not my buddies C-6.
To me........it seems like a "red flag" on that car.......something isn't up to snuff and it would be reveled if I drove the car. I realize it is a different world nowadays. People buy stuff all the time on Amazon and never get to pick it up and look at it before they buy it and pay for it.
Last word on that.........I'm a "senior citizen"........I'm not going to go out a "burn rubber and see what it will do" just to have a "joy ride" in a C-6. The salesman should be able to judge one's character and decide ......yes or no on the test drive. But I digress.
Ha, ha, .........sorry if this sounded like a rant.......us Seniors tend to get old and cranky......lol.
You can PM our Corvette Concierge @Mr.Corvette as he has his finger fully on the pulse of everything Corvette. I’m confident he can point you in the right direction. I hear you on the budget aspect as everything is increasingly expensive on an almost daily basis. In the meantime maybe some info here…from Perplexity AI search. Thanks again for the reply. I take your point on the C-8......lol.....however there is a limit to the "toy budget".
Last year I had serious intentions on buying one owner 2014 Camaro at Strickland's in Stratford. After I drove it I changed my mind on THAT car and also had to re-think the "new generation" Camaro purchase. Years ago I owned a 1967 Firebird 400 4 speed (same body as the 67 Camaro) and I thought I was in love at the time......lol. Today.........not so much......ha, ha.
Anyway, the test drive of the 2014 Camaro was a revelation and a disappointment.....I kept comparing it to my last C-4 Vette. Maybe it's time for one more Vette in my life while I can still do it (climb in and out...lol). .......a C-6 this time.
I mentioned Munro Motors in Brantford and Lee Munro Motors in Pairs as a source. Who else do you know that would sell used Corvettes in southern Ontario....?
You or anyone else can PM me if you like. [email protected]
