From Rob Lynn :

" Most failures are debris related. The transaxle is very sensitive to dirt. Pinched wires can be an issue during assembly. Also, the adaptations (calibrations) might not SET correctly due to parts acting out of their predicted high and low set points. The main final drive gear is a straight spiral bevel, not a hypoid. It is very expensive and is specially coated to 'wear in' and then HOLD tensile strength during break in running. So, be gentle the first 1,000 miles or so. CHANGE the oil and filter in the tranny often, and don't be shy! IF you work your Vette hard, change the filter more! The tranny is a junk factory when pushed hard...debris generate! Otherwise, a great part and a great ride."

" Anyway, it's keeping the debris out of the valve bodies and sensors. A full filter then allows the bypass valve to open, dumping junk everywhere as there is no real filtering. Change that filter, add thousands of miles to that tranny...absolutely true."

Oil is cheap . Engines and Transmissions are VERY expensive. Nuff said........
I believe GM want the TX fluid changed at regular intervals regardless of milage do they not ? First one at 3 years ?

Someone in that discussion recommend 10k miles filter&fluid than 15k miles there after to his customers.
His reply was too long on the filter.
I think I will do a dct filter at an 8k -9k kms interval or every 2 oil changes.
I did the filter at 12,010 km in the spring. Got 15,220 on it right now . Will change the fluid in the spring at the 3 year mark . Probably be at about 18,000 km at that point . Hopefully that will be adequate. I don't track it although of course it gets a good workout once in a while, lol. First engine oil change was at 5,100 second at 9,200 and will probably do it again this week. Oil cheap , engine expensive, lol.

According to this , from Techlink .... the fluid gets changed at 72,000 if you look at the chart ! Just to make things more confusing. Although it's also required at 3 years regardless. You have to wonder how much degradation there is at 3 years especially on a low mileage unit . Keeping dealers happy ? No choice from a warranty standpoint though .My truck is 17 years old and never had the TX fluid changed and there seems to be no problems .
