Hi, I cannot recall reading anything about this before and wondering what would be the ideal garage ceiling height for a lift with 2 Corvettes. I am in the process of planning what is becoming a very costly garage that requires a development permit, so I might as well make sure this option will be possible. Thank you in advance 🙂👍🏻

11’ interior height or higher. Likely could get away 10.5’ but it would be tight.

Was planning a 9ft stud wall on a 30” high retaining wall. Going to add the cost for a 10ft high stud wall now that will make the overhead garage door wall just over 12ft high once the slab thickness and slope is factored in. Dodged a potential disappointment there … whew.
 
I have 10 foot height and I’m able to fit in my C8 and 2016 Shelby GT350R, but it is a bit tight!

While your 2 Vettes will fit with the recommended 11' height, another factor to consider is whether you're happy "hitting your head" on the upper lift, as you walk under or near the lift itself. My ceiling is 11' high and every now and then, I still hit my head on the top part of the lift. I suspect this likely isn't a factor for you, nor worth the extra cost of going with a higher (ie. 12' minimum) ceiling, plus it depends on your height (I'm 5'10") but I mention this as something for you or others to consider. Good luck with your construction!
 
Mine is 25 feet high LOL, but my lift goes up to a shade more than 6 feet so I can't hit my head, but I leave it on fluid and not on the lock blocks. I never have a car there for long either. Measure the height of your cars (x2) and measure the height of your lift on the lock blocks just above one car to find the absolute minimum garage height.

As OP I do Appreciate the quick feedback above and this thread can continue along with hope that I can add my actual build in comment(s) as I proceed. I am going to design/‘contract with a minimum 12ft ceiling and specify side-mount openers for three 9ft high doors to open snug to the ceiling💰

I went with the Liftmaster 8500 side-mounted motors and extended height railings, as you've mentioned. I ran into a ++ problem getting my wall-mounted garage door openers (I have 2 of them; for a double-wide door and a single door) to work using a Bluetooth connection to the motor(s), since there was no communication between the wall-mounted switches and the motors. The "garage door specialist" who did the install, couldn't figure out the problem, despite several visits. I eventually found a chatroom on the Web where someone mentioned changing the settings in the Liftmaster wall switches, so only one of the switches was "permanently on", since otherwise their signals were cancelling each other out (?? something like that; this is 5 years ago now). Anyway, everything works fine since then. You'll have 3 switches and if you choose Liftmaster, perhaps these comments will help you avoid the frustration I experienced for a few months. Or (?) perhaps consider spacing out the wall-mounted switches further apart or one above the other, rather than side-by-each which is how mine were put in. Good luck!

Hey Sp. I have a 12' ceiling with a 10' high door and an overhead door opener that hangs at 11'. I have no problem with clearance at all with my Vette on the highest lift lock option (which is 75 inches) and I still have 10 inches of clearance between the door opener and my Vette roof.. This gives me 71 inches of clearance under the deck which I can park my wife's Lincoln MKX under it easy. I'm 5'10" with boots on and there's no ducking necessary to walk around under the deck either. If you went with a sidewall opener install, you could get away with an 11' ceiling easy and have the same results. My 4 post Lift King lifts to 75 inches top of deck height so I recommend looking carefully at the specs on the lift model you choose as well. Good Luck. A lift is a great choice.

Finally! Chose a builder and plans are in for Development Permit today - Spring/May 2024 demo & build start ... YaY .
12ft ceiling height with 3-9ftx10ft o/h doors ... 36ft wide with two-24ft deep bays + one-32ft deep.
Nat-Gas Heating (heat pump / electric heat deemed as useless and was a waste of research time in the North-of-the-49th climate).
Enough Lot width remains for a 20ft wide x 26ft deep parking pad for the car hauler and guest parking ... budget has become a fortune ... ouch.
Hope to move the (yup still got it) H1 in by Sept/Oct. Corvette lift will have to wait until the 2025 budget.

Just a suggestion but if you have room for a 20 ft parking pad beside the garage, use it and extend your garage out the 20 ft instead. The additional cost is minimal in comparison. I was going to build my garage 40 ft wide and when I looked at an additional 10k for the extra 20 feet, it was a no brainer. Granted, that was 20 years ago.

And, it doesn’t cost any more to go 12 ’ as opposed to 11’ . Seeing how you don’t get 11’ lumber. ;)

Thx for suggestion as I did leave a lot of “city drama” from this update. “Development Permit” should say a lot. So the Detached Accessory Garage is just over 15% of lot coverage - any more than 15% is a common “no go” inner City here. Hoping our decimal point over will get thru. So more garage is not an option and the build is max’d on budget because we have extensive demo with t. Carport has purpose as Guests get to park off the street but outside - otherwise they will never leave. 😂👍🏻

Sadly there will be zero “wall stud length” economics factored into this build. The lot slopes about 30” from the back to the front 12ft high ceiling overhead door face.

My rural projects are definitely no “dream” with by-laws as well. Rockyview County builds are definitely something I will not miss in retirement … in the meantime … my residential drawing has gone from 3 pages in the 90’s, to 8 pages, then 12 to now 16-20 pages to mainly illustrate compliance and detailed energy efficiency calculations (a part of the building code now) before one even gets to break ground. Costly as heck “to follow the rules” but much less than when found with any infraction during the build.
This detached garage project will cost today as much as it cost to build the 2200sqft residence in 1990. Now feeling old with this “remember when …” reference 🤣. Back to work now … 😃

On the farm I would call it an 'accessory farm building to park my tractors in'... no permits or approvals necessary. Acreages on the other hand also have to follow rules that we can avoid.
