Shell Has 93 Octane

The difference is the amount of ethanol they add to get the octane level up. Lucky for us, we still have premium ethanol free.
 
Yes they do at Mobil as well. I remembered years back there was 93.5 at Pioneer but they were all removed for unknown reason, to me anyways?

Maybe someone with more knowledge on this topic could correct my logic? If you were just daily your car and NA, It would be ok to fill with 93 as a substitute imo. If one were to track there cars and constantly at WOT, then go with 94 and or mix with some octane booster to be safe.
The knock sensor will keep track on things with a reliable oem computer programming.

91 at Shell and Co-op with no ethanol. Chevon has a 94 that some say doesn't have ethanol but I'm not too sure of that as most use ethanol to boost octane that high. Petrocan has a 93 but all their fuel contains ethanol.

I noticed that yesterday at our local Shell where I've been filling up...first time I was able to get 93 for my C7. I used to go to Esso where they always had it, but after switching to Shell I used 91 as that's all they had until now.
 
Supreme+ gas at select Esso stations in the GTA area have 93 octane. Most Essos you go to will only have 91 as their highest grade. Need more Mobil stations as they will have 93 at all times.


It's stupid it's like this. Before when it was Sunoco you need gas you pull into a Sunoco station and they will have 94 octane (Sunoco Gold back then), now with Petro Can you have to look for the stupid "Ultra" logo on the signs if you need 94 HO fuel and not every PC station has it. If it's a gas station you should have all the grades available that the gas company offers.

Speaking only for the C7 LT4/5 cars, behind the fuel door it has a sticker that mentions minimum fuel octane requirement is 91 octane but in the manual for the LT1 and LT4/5 engines it states 93 is recommended for best performance and fuel economy. The manual states that for LT1 you can use 87 octane if you have to in areas that the 91-3 isn't available but don't expect to be hammering on it running 87 fuel. LT4/5 is 91 minimum octane required, can't use lower octane fuels.

On the ZR1 since I have one it has been tested by many people that even on 94 octane fuel under hard use/hot weather conditions it will pull timing. A blend of 94 with 100 octane fuel giving you around a 96-97 octane fuel is what will keep KR from pulling timing under these conditions. A proper bleed of the CAC system will reduce this also. If you track for LT4/5 engines they state for best performance to use 100 octane fuel.

I use strictly 94 Sunoco/ PC fuel with my current car and the two previous summer rides (09 Z06, 13 GT500)

Alternative is to add some of these Boostane octane booster to reach your 94-100 number? It comes in Professional or Premium formulations.
Some reviews said that it stained (yellow) their 02 sensors if you mix with 87 to get 91+ in Professional Formula?
I am going to test it out on my boosted 4cly this summer to see if mixing Premium with 91 will have the same issue as with 87 and Professional Formula? They do stated that Professional is not for street use fwiw. lol..
I suspected that because more concentrated mix with 87 with Professional Formula was the cause of the staining?

All Shell fuels have Ethanol in them now. Check out their website. You have to dig, but it's there. Search for Ethanol and you'll find the one document about a refinery that adds the ethanol. I couldn't find one document stating Ethanol free, where I could about 6 to 9 months ago.

Thanks for that. Shell is changing their proper name and seem to have changed their web site a bit as well. Articles I found a few months ago are missing and others have been added. My local Shell doesn't have ethanol contents on their pumps.
 
I am a bit confused. If I try to research ethanol, it appears it will damage aluminum components, fuel pumps, injectors etc.
The old 91 has always run best using 94 Octane, so until now the only time I used fuel saver was when I stored it, and I've had no apparent problems. Anything I've read just seems to be a sales pitch to sell fuel saver. Now that all fuels have ethanol should we be using fuel saver in every fill up ?... or does the ethanol only really cause damage if it sits for a long time?

I'll be using Seafoam in all my garden equipment and toys from now on. If I had a carb in any of my cars I'd do likewise. Is yours carbed or fuel injected? Sorry, not up on Corvettes pre C8. If carbed, then I'd add seafoam, if not, then I'm not sure you should worry too much about it.

I believe it's a federal mandate and the percentage of ethanol may go up as well. ☹️

Thanks Murray. FYI the C4's are all fuel injected. I did throw in a can of Seafoam last year. I suppose using the law of if it works don't fix it, and, as its never been problematic, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing.
