Event resolution's

Quit smoking.....been a month! A little grouchy but hanging in there. Biggest change is 80% less joint pain now. My body is a little beat up from various things but this is a real relief for me and quite hard to believe.

Now to hide the fridge.

Bill and Rrrrufff.....
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!
I quit 3 years ago on New Years eve!
It is soooo hard...Stick with it....
I never cheated or used patches or meds .....it was just time to quit.
I always had the pool table set up and ready to go...
If I felt the smoking urge I went to the table and banged out a few games.
If you can make it thru the first few minutes then your good.

I and others will be here for support.....If you get an urge then just post a note here and someone will respond
I had bought a carton the night before I quit... They sat there for months..

I used my cig monies every month to buy a hobby related reward ..
That first year got me quite a few slot cars and record albums.

Stick to it for your health, your family and your hobbies!!!!

Good luck guys, it is perhaps one of the best investments you will ever make in yourself.

Let us know a month from now how you are doing and feeling.:Woohoo:

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. I always said when smokes hit 50 cents a pack I would quit... so what if I waited until they were 50 cents a smoke. :D One of my favorite people to quote regarding my smoking is Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) " Giving up smoking is easy. I've done it hundreds of times" :Banghead: That being said, my mind is set for this to be my last time... :Hurray:

I think the biggest and hardest part for me was when people ask if you want one! I found if you said you just quit they would try and talk you into trying another. Eventually, I found if you just say you don't smoke they tend to drop it right away and that was it. I gave it up in March 73 and haven't looked back since!

I know more people who have started smoking again because of those cigar like "Colts". Hey, just give me one, then one package and you are hooked again. If you guys can give this up all the power to you, it is not easy but I have faith. Like the other posters you can and will succeed.

First time I have tried. I think I can do it. No raging urges at all plus when I smell it out and about or come in contact with a smoker, the smell is all I can bare. Very strange, I think it was just my time to quit.
Never smoked in my vehicles and never smoked in the house. Been smoking a pack a day since I was 15, now 53. I AM DONE!

I quit once before but a family tragedy (I know.... no excuse... but it was).... and I was smoking again.... i'm totally confident this time is golden.... yup! in 1973 Steamer, people wanted you to start again to cover their weaknesses in not being able to quit themselves.... a little better now a days.... all I know actually support my quitting....whether they smoke or not.... Thanks Murray... Graham.... FordPre... Steamer... your words all help a ton.... great perspective Bill.... yes... We CAN do it... no problem.... Hey. We both drive Corvettes.... we may as well stick around for a few extra years so we can enjoy them.... neither one of us are kids anymore.... we have a mind of our own and are for sure a helluva stronger willed now than we were as kids.... I don't need to smoke to fit in with an "in" crowd these days.... we got this beat my friend.....

Nice work guys! It's pretty awesome to hear about real benefits to quitting smoking. I've also heard quitting smoking is more difficult than quitting a lot of the other "hard core" drugs so, you guys being able to keep up with being smoke free is fantastic! Way to go!

I'm not sure on which is harder to quit Riley.... I thought that heroin, cocaine, meth, PCP. LSD, Peyote, morphine, oxy-contin, percocet, and methodone were all hard to quit too.... (ok.... that was a joke)..... hahaha..... thanks for the support.... I'm sure that Bill will agree that it helps...

As this thread is about resolutions, I figured I would put down one of my goals for this year, which I actually started into December, but it is my goal to lose 30 lb by June 1st by dropping 1.5lb per week. This should be a very realistic goal and I could lose more, but, this is a nice start.
Methods to completing this goal does not include going to the gym. I know this would be unrealistic to think I'll hit the gym 3-5 times a week. I believe 70% of my weight loss needs to be addressed by my food portion sizes. So, outside of just trying to reduce portion sizes, I'm using My Fitness Pal on my phone to track calories and the nutrition if what I eat. And, not to leave out exercise, but a couple years ago I started biking to work a few days a week. This summer I didn't bike as much as I should have (who wants to bike when you can drive a Corvette!) so now I'm back biking 4-5 days a week. And, not to make biking sound more than it is, the two routes I go are either 6 km or 7 km in distance and are relatively flat so it's some exercise but not what will cause me to lose weight.
At some point I will add some other exercises such as the different programs found on at Darebee.com . They have a ton of workouts/programs where they are mostly body weight exercises and don't take a lot of time to complete so it's a nice start! Anyway, that is my plan this year.

Good luck Riley, your food intake is number one for sure. As for the biking it can be kind of risky now days. I quit riding motorcycles for that very reason. One good piece of workout equipment set up at home would be ideal. Something like a cross trainer, tread mill etc.
My wife started this 2 yrs ago and is now the same size she was in high school at 45yrs old. Good for her and great for me! lol

Very cool! I am very impressed when people are able to maintain their weight.
I know exactly what you are saying and agree about biking. I know I hate being on the road with cars, and cars hate having me on the road, so at least we're both on the same page. :D
The route I take to work has quite a bit of a dedicated walkway for bikes/pedestrians, some side street and maybe 1 km of main road riding where the road is actually pretty wide.
There's a couple side street intersections and approaches to business I have to cross. If there's a car, I either make sure they see me or I stop. No one really looks for bikes, especially not in winter and the funny thing is, I bike to work but when I drive, it's not like I'm sure conscious to look for bikes.
As for home equipment, we have an elliptical and I've been thinking about what other stuff to add to our "gym". So far I'm really leaning towards a rowing machine. I would like to know if others out there have any favorite piece of equipment.

I'm pretty lucky weight wise. I have one of those weird metabolisms. Brenda says I can lose weight just by thinking about it.... I have our living room setup for my exercise equipment. Here it is... and of course a pic of my morning workout... :thumbs:

Looks strenuous Eric. Settle down, your not getting any younger.

 WHAT! ... ? Murray. I'm pretty sure I felt 30 years younger when I got my first corvette... And each time I crawl behind the wheel, younger still.... GM should pursue the Fountain of Youth angle in their advertising.....

oh yeah.... and thats not grey in my whiskers either.... just poor camera colour detection.... hahahahaha
