I tried a free trial of OnStar , and was marginally ok. I didn’t need anything or crash my car. So true value never really realized. Few remote functions are nice to have.

Given how expensive it is , anyone subscribed to it ongoing and find it useful? If so, details as to why you like it?

Any way to get a better subscription price ? @ $50 per month for the One subscription or $30 per month for Protect … seems wildly high to me.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Yes, you paid for it in the price of the car. It was forced after a certain model year. I want to say '24's?

It was on June 2, 2022 that GM in the US made the OnStar a $1500 mandatory option on all US models and later included it in the price for the 2025 model year cars there. For Canada a price increase of $1200 CDN came with a mid term price increase for the 2023 models in January 2023. It has remained since then.
David, you can get a plan for $15 a month called Remote Access which allows you to keep your 2022 Corvette active on the My Chevrolet app.
It doesn't offer all of the features that the $50 a month plan offers but that's what I went with on one of my 2022 Chevy's. My C8 is still covered with the extra 3 year $1200 that was added to my msrp in 2023.
 
My 24 of course came with the 3 year plan but I won't be renewing it at $50.00 a month. I used it twice for navigation while traveling in an unfamiliar area but you can do the same with Google maps which is available with Android Auto. One interesting feature of OnStar though, and what are the odds of ever using it, is that they can remotely slow the car to a stop if stolen . The problem with that feature though is that before they can do that the stolen vehicle has to have been reported to the police and then the police have to have located the vehicle and have it within sight. As I said, what are the odds .

I should test to see if my Solar throttle controller can do the same thing? I once tried to drive my car with the controller locked and it only went about 1 mph, so I unlocked it on the fly and it started to work normally. If the car were to be stolen can the reverse be accomplished if the car is moving?

I wouldn't think so unless you can connect to it remotely using either satellite or cellular. Which I don't think you can do unfortunately. You would think that insurance companies would give a discount for owners that have OnStar installed and active, hahahahaha . Found this .......

What OnStar Can DoStolen Vehicle Slowdown: Once police confirm the vehicle is stolen and are in a pursuit, OnStar can gradually reduce engine power so the vehicle slows to a controlled stop while keeping steering and brakes functional. Remote Ignition Block: If the vehicle is parked and turned off, OnStar can prevent the engine from restarting, effectively stranding the thieves where they stopped. Conditions and LimitsThe owner must report the theft to police and then contact OnStar (or police contact OnStar); they do not act on their own without a police report. Law enforcement has to request and approve use of slowdown or ignition block; OnStar will not just shut down a moving vehicle without police involvement and an assessment of safety. The only option may be to keep the throttle locked at all times until you start to move the car.

Exactly. That requirement no doubt came from OnStars legal department. I have a Solar unit I will be installing soon and will be using that feature for sure. Pretty easy habit to get into. Just a couple of taps .....
 
My Solar is currently locked. I got it two years ago and keep it locked all the time. I found out when I forgot to unlock it how the car barely moves while still in the lock position which is actually better than the OnStar feature. If your considering this mod, I highly recommend it for those who are still undecided.

Just tried to adjust my solar controller from the other end of the house from the garage.

The app came up with a message that said no connection.

so I guess the phone with the app has to be close to the car.

It connects using Bluetooth so that's the limitation. And doesn't the vehicle have to be " awake " , at least on accessory , if not running?
