Hello,

My name is Dan and I am the new owner of my dads vette. Thanks Riley P and CCO for helping me post onto the forums...I never did receive the activation email.

About the car (the story)...it's a '72 454 auto, numbers matching, pewter, T-top. My dad purchased it from a GM employee in late 1973 and has owned it since. If anyone here belonged to the corvette club back in the late 70's/80's they may have known my dad. Back in the 80's my dad would run the car at Sparta (I was the little kid back then that would guard his parking spot). He loved bracket racing, and wanted to be as consistent as possible, and with an automatic, that also helped the cause. He started with the carb and intake, mapped/balanced and blueprinted the motor, added headers and a side exit exhaust and kept every factory piece safe and sound. In the 90's we updated the valve covers with the "454" emblemed ones and for his 60th birthday I purchased him a new set of hooker header.

Being that I was a "car kid" growing up caught the mod bug myself and went a different route with my summer car (1999 Mercury Cougar). Since his passing this past New Years eve, I have taken on the vette in rememberance of my father. In fact, his love of the car was so strong that I placed a hotwheels replica of his car in his ern, and he will have a very unique grave marker on the way from Australia (it will be worth posting pics of).

So hello....I look forward to meeting some of you, and will likely be posting random questions regarding the car as there were a few things I might need help with learning on this car. My dad has HUNDREDS of corvette magazines and manuals, so if anyone wants to sit down with me looking through 60's 70's and 80's vette mags let me know LOL....

Thanks for listening,

Dan

Welcome Dan. Great story of your dad and his car and it sound like racing has been in your blood for quite a while. You didn't say how fast it was or what mods it has, but it's probably is a very strong runner. I'm sure that you are already making a new list, you'll be adding to the car yourself. The hot wheels model is a great idea and I'm sure that pop's has fired it up a few times and took it for a record run! Post some pictures of you and your dad with the car when you have time.
Rob

Welcome Dan. Yes, what a great story. Sorry for your loss of your father but what wonderful memories you have of him. Post up some pics of the car when you get settled in here. I too am a C3 owner, but not of one that sounds as nice as yours.

Greg.

Hi Dan! Very glad you were able to make it on here! Sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. Sounds like you have some great memories with him. The Corvette sounds fantastic. Was your dad a Chevy guy? I was just wondering if he was supportive of you moving over to the other side with the Cougar or if he was ok with it. :D

Cheers Dan -- Glad to have you along and thanks so much for sharing the story with us. I bet he's up there chatting with my Dad who was a big car fan too. Both looking down and seeing what fun we're having.

Yeah we'd love to hear more about how that bad boy has performed at the track and no worries here mixing Chevs with Fords or any other brand. Here we love all performance and appreciate all the work that goes into having and modifying cars.

Would love to see it sometime at a meet or a Timmies -- let us know your schedule and what meets you plan on attending.

Until we meet, see you online here.

Not sure what happened to your confirmation email but It looks like you on and everything is copasetic.

If I can help in any way just holler. Mods and admins are here to help our members.

Cool about your Dad and his racing -- Is he from Aus.? I've got relatives over there somewhere in the south.

Colin.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses...to answer a few questions....

How did the car run/perform - great. Stock he used to run 14's...he got it into the 13's after some mods. He NEVER ran full slicks. His fastest run at St. Thomas (Sparta) was 11.97, no burnout, no slicks. He loved running the car for fun and didn't want to go overboard making a track car...he wanted to know what it could do in everyday driving scenarios and how his mods effected the every day driving.

How did dad feel about me buying the cougar.....well....he loved it. One of the highlights of his life and mine was the 2 of us driving to L.A. and back in the cougar...a father and son road trip. He loved the way it handled, the comfort...and well....the AC in the Arizona heat....and that was something the vette didn't have LOL. He supported everything I did to the car and often wrenched on it with me and was out helping me prep it for car shows (I won more trophy's than him LOL) he also bought his friends copies of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords when a picture of my car was in there for taking the V6 challenge 1st place exterior/cosmetic. He also towed his boat with an Expedition EB....so yeah....he couldn't complain. He appreciated all cars, he previously owned Bronco's, Dodge trucks, but his favorites were his Vette, Olds 442, and his old Nova....the vette never left him.

Pics - I have some but don't have a photobucket account and no real interest in making one, if someone would be kind enough I can send a few I took last fall and if anyone has requests from any decade I have them some are a little yellowed from the 70's....I would pull the car out and take some fresh pics...but I have a boat in the laneway waiting to get taken away by it's new owner...

Is my dad from Austrailia...no...I ordered the bronze marker for his grave site from there because they were the only company willing to do the 1972 corvette flags emblem as a custom order. It will have his name, date of death, and a big corvette emblem in the center, just like the hood of his car.

As for a meet at timmies....I would love to at some point....I need to get the car past a safety first...I need to figure out what's going on with the horn as I think that will be the only part that fails, everything else is great. There is a Sunday GTG out by komoka that looks amazing (good variety of everything from GT40's to Lambo's every second Sunday of the month....thinking about getting there if I can.

Very good times for the 'vette. Your Dad was a good driver to get those times without slicks.

Komoka would be a nice run for a timmies. Let me know and we can hook up some time. My brother Terry is usually up for a run and there are quite a few members down that way who would like to see the cars too.

Post up and we can go from there. There are always guys to meet up with.

As for pictures I'll pm my email to you -- send some pics thru and I can post them from my account no problem.

Cheers,

Colin.
