Back in February I was still driving my POS daily driver the 2010 Suzuki SX4. I had done a ton of stuff on it expecting to continue driving it for at least another 4-5 years which it was perfectly ready to do (it was pretty reliable and a car I can just drive, park anywhere without a worry about anything happening to it).

Then that fateful day I finished work going home, off the highway to the stop near my house used the brakes and had it till the last 30 ft or so around 35km/h the pedal went right to the floor. Had no time to react and went right into the back of a flat bed tow truck with a tow bar. All the damage was on my car (see pic). Guy was cool no damage on his truck and he got the clear to leave if we weren't involving police. We exchanged info and he was gone. I was not going to worry about dealing with insurance on this and after checking the car I felt I could get it home (only 2 mins away). I still had some brakes but pedal was right to the floor and I would need to press down a tiny bit more to be able to slow the car and stop.

I nursed it home and within a week bought my new daily driver.....2024 VW GTI autobahn 6 sp. Really nice ride and a huge step up from the SX4 but now I have to be more paranoid about where I park it and stuff (especially at work). I got the car early February but didn't really drive it still March after that storm we had in Toronto (car came with 19" wheels with summer rubber).

The month after the accident I tried selling the car complete and got all sorts of stupid offers and stuff but I hung on and eventually a buyer showed up wanting a project and he bought it and totally fixed it up. He also found the cause of the brake failure, a brake line from the master to the ABS module running along the firewall broke (something I would never expect to happen or know it could happen) so he fixed that too and now he has a reliable car to drive. I gave up the AWD getting the GTI but it is fun to drive. Loving the VW so far.

edit: I never mentioned it in the OE thread up top but this car was purchased new in February after I had the wreck in the Suzuki and I heard from the owner of the SX4. I sold it to him with 185,000kms and he reported to me that he hit 200k, in 6 months he's gone 15k. Reliable car which I knew it was.

New look for the GTI for the summer
