My engine emblem is all chrome. I see new ones are black and colored. Should it be painted black over the chrome before coloring it.

i assume ime you mean you are going to restore the original one? ive done that on an 85. i painted the base color with a spray. then used my kids paints to make the tiny detail colours. then clear coated. looked awesome. i was near broke at the time so saving every bit helped. it worked great.

Yes that is what I want to do. But were they really black over the chrome? Or did they come in chrome ?
never owned an 84. id have to go look at what is for sale as a replacement and go off that. ebay, zip, etc.

It's a 85 and I've look at everything for sale and the net. All black.
