Interesting product- good price

Is the USB port switched? If so will the cameras start recording when on or is it something you have to remember to do when you start the car?
Yes. Once the GKU dash cam is properly powered and has a formatted microSD card installed, it starts recording automatically when the vehicle is started / ignition turns on—you do not need to press a record button. Its manual states that the camera powers on and off with the ignition and begins continuous loop recording automatically.
What “automatic” means
Normal driving: The camera begins recording as soon as it receives power from the vehicle’s 12 V accessory socket or USB power source; recordings are saved in looped segments.
No Wi‑Fi needed: It records whether or not your phone is connected to the camera’s Wi‑Fi.
Parking mode is separate: When the engine is off, the camera can enter parking mode—but only if it is hardwired to the fuse box with GKU’s compatible hardwire kit, which is sold separately.
Important caveat
If it is plugged into a 12 V socket that remains powered after you turn the car off, it may keep drawing power rather than automatically shutting down; a hardwire kit with low-voltage protection is recommended for reliable parking monitoring and to avoid draining the battery.
So: yes for automatic start when driving, provided the unit is receiving power and the SD card is working; parking-mode recording is not automatic without the optional hardwire kit.
