I’ve noticed that my convertible top, when closed, will squeak now and again. Not constantly but enough that I notice it and got me thinking.

I clean it regularly, in fact it’s ultra clean. Including the rubber all the way around that seals it up when closed.

Rubber seal seems soft, not worn and has no visible defects…. It appears like new.

Is there anything special for the rubber that will stop the squeaking? Like a lube or conditioner made for that purpose?

Thoughts ?

I too hear the HTC make little "squeaking" noises sometimes but never gave it much thought. However, sometimes when I'm detailing the car I'll rub some VRP (Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic) distributed by Chemical Guys. You can get it at Detail Garage or perhaps Canadian Tire as I see they are delling some Chemical Guys products now. I have also had good success with a similar Vinyl/Rubber protect product from Auto Glym.

Anyone that has owner a Corvette that either has the roof panels ant come out or convertible tops know that at least once a year (usually in the spring) you put a thin coat of Dielectric Grease. A thin coat of this grease keeps the rubber seals soft and pliable. You should also use some of the grease in the hold down areas so that the pins are lubricated. It stops squeaks and rattles etc. Just use a very thin coat of this stuff and you are good to go.

Any particular brand better than another ?

I have been using this product for years and it works really well and is easy to apply. Price is right as well.

It's available on Amazon

Dielectric grease is non-petroleum grease made primarily of silicone, and it's main use is to grease electrical connections
so they don't corrode (eg. battery posts),-and being silicone based it doesn't hinder the flow of electricity. You can use any silicone grease,
including dielectric grease, to lube the rubber seals as silicone won't damage rubber like petroleum-based grease would do.
