My '85 doesn't have the hydraulic type strut like my '87. Is your '85 the flimsy steel articulated type?

Short cylinders are the front that assist in lifting and lowering the hood

Funny that they had the 2 types in '85. Sorry... cannot help then.

My 87 has the short cylinder type got replacements from rock auto note they list extended length and collapsed length in the description
