I installed the application the other day, and ONSTAR SMART DRIVER is no longer automatically activated.
You manually have to go to settings of the application to turn it on. (That is not happening)

Be careful if you reinstall the application if previously removed as that setting may still be active of you did not clear application cache and settings data.
Do we know if that actually stops GM from collecting the data and reselling it to Insurance companies here in Canada?
 
Does anyone know if GM Canada is continuing the practice of providing information to our Canadian Insurance Companies. Lexisnexis and Verisk are customers of GM and they exist in Canada. All the News has been about the US but I have not seen evidence of the practice being stopped in Canada. Where could this be confirmed?
I have not seen evidence it was ever an issue in Canada

Interesting. But fault regarding the intrusiveness lies with the consumer in MHO given that it was an opt in feature off by default. But nice to see that they are concerned about public perception. I posted the GM privacy policy directly above your post for anyone who cares to check it out. It just says Site Maintenance for some reason.

Nope . First you have to agree to their privacy policy and then enable it in the App or by contacting On Star .

Customers can enroll in OnStar Smart Driver at the time of vehicle purchase through their dealer, or at a later time, using their myBuick, myCadillac, myChevrolet or myGMC mobile app(s). With any of the enrolment options, prior consent to GM’s User Terms for Connected Vehicle Services and Connected Services Privacy Statement is required.

If enrolling through the mobile app, click on “Settings” and select “OnStar Smart Driver.” Slide the “Allow OnStar Smart Driver” toggle “on”. The toggle is gray (“off”) when you’re not enrolled.

They JUST changed the option to default off about a month ago. Previous versions have it enabled by default.

And some didn't have that option at all! Mine from 2020. lol.
Can’t imagine why anyone would enable Corporate spyware unless they perhaps wanted to keep track of the driving habits of a spouse or child. I will probably enable OnStar for the navigation in areas I’m unfamiliar with down south and then when I get home that will be it . Even if it is “ free “ . I did just receive an envelope from Seriousxm yesterday saying my three month trial had started , lol . Be ok if I had the frikin car ! I was under the impression it was a year’s subscription, apparently not.

Could be useful, if the battery dies in the device while you're still looking for it? It does happen.

Bottom line, as others have suggested, there is very little personal privacy left in the world, if you try to keep up with the physical technology.
Now, Google will let you find your devices, even if the batteries have failed or died, by creating a global network of devices all tracking each other by Bluetooth.
They do say, as a CYA, that you can "opt out" in the 3 day rollout/warning period.
Or, if the global network is Bluetooth driven, turning off Bluetooth should also render you invisible.
 
Does anyone know how to cancel or shut off ONStar? I called ONStar to have it cancelled on my 2024 and was told they can't cancel prepaid plans.
I know it's possible. My 2014 Malibu had a LOUD announcement to the effect that "it wasn't enabled" after the trial period. It was so loud it was annoying as hell. It took several phone calls to get it totally disabled. I'd try escalating the call. Talk to their manager and even their manager.

Here is the fuse panel layout with each fuse explained. I have no idea really but you could try pulling #33 on the instrument panel fuse box inside the glove box as that appears to be the most likely although you would also lose wireless charging by the description. One way to find out.

Apparently it's not that easy. It's been discussed on other forums. Removing the antenna disables OTA updates and location GPS systems. If you remove any part of OnStar you also disable the OTA updates.

You would think that finding out if an update was available would not be too difficult. Could always pop the fuse in , update and pull it out again. Would only take a few minutes. And obviously if that would even work but for those that really don’t want OnStar active that badly perhaps it would be a solution for them. As I said I’m not really sure but worth a shot. If it disabled GPS though you would lose the memory for front lift as well although it would still work manually. As for navigation you still have the option of google maps on your phone.

If all you want to disable is the "event tracking/data collection" you can disable the "OnStar Smart Driver" feature from the MyChevrolet android app with your GM Canada account.
This "how to" assumes you already have a GM Canada account that knows about your cars and other personal details.
So, open the app, sign in, either by password or biometrics, then top right corner, tap the account icon (may contain your name/initials), then tap Settings, then OnStar Smart Driver, then disable "Allow OnStar Smart Driver" with the slider switch.
This can probably be done on the internet version, but I have yet to figure out how.
