Eric another great write of your adventures. That XKE is a really good looking car, always like the style of those cars.

Can't wait to hear about Tasmania. Travel safe.

It is very clean here Riley but I think that has something to do with the season. They haven't seen rain here for a number of months. Pretty freaky actually. We have driven about 3000 kn so far and every time we come to a bridge across a river I look down to see if it's worthy of my fly rod..... Nope.... no water..... they are pretty much all dry.... so much easier to keep a car clean here than home.... Don't know if anyone besides me watched the movie Planes but i happened to catch the star 'Dusty' at his real job in Tasmania earlier today and was able to grab a picture.... he wouldn't stop for an autograph.... not positive why he'd want my autograph anyway.... :p

Another great travelog Eric. I have no idea why Dusty would not have wanted your autograph either, once you are off the Red Carpet some folks just don't seem to recognize star power. It really is a beautiful country.

Hope you are enjoying your trip, it should be spring by the time you get back.

Well. Finished up in Tasmania and now in New South Wales. From Brisbane down to a little town called Maclean where Brenda's grandmother was born. Headed for Coff's Harbour today. Have to share a work of 'art' (and I sort of use that term loosely, but will let anyone who looks judge for themselves. This was in the Mona Museum in Hobart Tasmania. Long story behind the museum and the owner and will share that and some more pictures later as we are hitting the road but had to drop this one on you. This is/was a Porsche Carrera before the artist did his work.....

This is the label.

Thoughts?

My first thought (and maybe my only one) is the CARS movie. When you said you were going whale watching Eric, I thought you meant the other whale.

Wonder what it is constructed of? Art is Art but I think this one needs Weight Watchers and quickly.

You have been putting on a lot of miles. Great travelogue Eric.

With a little more thought I am wondering if this is not just some type of miscommunication.

The customer said "put a 911 whale tail on it"

The artist heard "make it look like a whale"

Simple misunderstanding.

Ok.... you have seen the car... now a bit more story....

The Mona Art Museum is privately owned by a David Walsh. He was a professional gambler in Australia who also happened to have been a mathematician. Supposedly, he figured out a way to beat the odds in a number of gambling things (and trust me here.... the Aussies love to gamble. They will bet on anything). But I digress.... David Walsh used his earnings to build and furnish a very extravagant and very 'out there' museum. It use to be free but at an 8 mil per year operating cost, he decided that it would be free to Tasmanian's only. Other than his private collection, which is pretty massive, I was told that a lot of the other art displays are only there for a period of a few months to a year and then are changed up.

It was not really my taste but I am glad we went for the experience alone and would highly recommend it for that.

Oh yes. Mr. Walsh is wanted by a number of Aussie and Tasmanian authorities supposedly for tax evasion to the tune of about 40 million but he does so much for the people that they tend to look the other way.... hmmmmmm

Here is an indication of what Mr. Walsh thinks of himself. I understand from one of his employees that he has received more than one comment on his and his wife's parking spots. Most of the pictures of the art that I took I will not post as I'm guessing the mods would surely remove them... but i will include a couple...

His wife's car wasn't there the day I was.
God.... hmmmm.JPG

He sits here all day long with only a few 15 minute breaks..... it took me a while to realize he was breathing.

It took me a while to realize this one wasn't breathing.... lol....

I think this is what he drives when that Tesla S is getting charged.... lol...

Very interesting parking designations Eric. Where does his wife park?:D

I think you should have tried to sneak in a couple of other shots while the mods were snoozing. Very strange, is it all what I guess some would call "unconventional" artwork? Eclectic for sure.

In the dark of the CCF night, I am slipping some more art in for you to view. No, It is not "all" unconventional. He has some amazing Egyptian artifacts in his personal collection but it seems that most things he displays are there for the shock value more than the art value. Maybe it's my interpretation. I always had trouble drawing a stick person, let alone anything resembling real art...lol.... you be the judge Murray....

these are artifacts from his personal collection

these are artist works he is displaying.... Some of this may not be suitable for all viewer....

pile of clothing rags and some shredded paper? really?

or how about burlap bags full of rocks..... sorry guys... I just don't get it...

ok..... just to prep you.... these are life size plaster casts of the female anatomy... There were 77 of these on the wall.... and at the risk of being banned from the forum.....

ok.... enough of that from the Mona Museum of Art in Hobart Tasmania. I will admit that as weird as some of it was, the architecture of the building and some of the "not quite as weird" art was well worth going to see ....

Eric

Eric, I remember a long time ago someone saying to me "be careful what you wish for". Now I understand.

I have been in art galleries and seen people looking in awe at "displayed items" like these. I guess you either get it or you don't. I don't.

Where are you off to next?

By the way the last day of the 2016 Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival was yesterday but since you are in a different time zone maybe you can catch the last few shows on the way home!

Sorry Nik.... I think it's like you told me earlier.... that I would start thinking that the left side of the road is the right side.... Perhaps the twisted mentality in art goes hand in hand with resigning myself to understanding the left side road thing.... The only time I mess up now is in parking lots.... but I do still turn the wipers on every time I signal a turn...
. :Beatdeadhorse:

Well.... trip is slowly winding down... We were in the Mt Tamborine rainforest yesterday... then to Coffs Harbour.... spending an extra day here as Brenda has some historical family items from her grandmother who was born here to donate to the Coffs Museum.... No Murray... It's not like the art from my other post... hahaha.... Then on towards Sydney where we will meet another relative and flying out of Sydney and back to Alberta. It's been an interesting trip but I will be glad to get home as well. oh.... funny story from Mount Tamborine. We walked a forest canopy skywalk while we were there... lots of great sights. But my sense of humour (twisted as it may be) took over.. There was a young oriental couple some distance behind us and every time I stopped to take a picture, they would catch up and almost run over me to see what I was taking a picture of.... my camera has a large view screen so the would have a look and then see if they wanted to take a picture as well... they never spoke to me... or at least not that I could understand... anyhows... I got ahead of them again and downloaded a picture off the internet into my phone and then took a close up of the download with my camera. Then the next time I stopped , I held my camera up like I was taking a picture just so they could see the screen.....They were very excited... jumping around and pointing and looking throught their cameras....and I think they may still be in that spot trying to get the same picture they thought I had.....Here is what they saw....

I know.... it was mean.... but oh so funny....
