diesel vette

I just came across a story in Corvette Fever April 2005 .
A 53 replica with a BMW diesel engine.
It looks like any other 53
It is a 3 litre with 218 hp and 368 lbs torque.
It was done by Robert Bosch of the Bosch fuel injection company.
Is there not some kind of law against this LOL

I'd never heard of this kind of conversion b4.....
