My sister found something really special for me for Xmas.
It is a die-cast of our dad's favorite car that he owned from '61 - 67.
A 1959 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight hardtop in 1/18th scale. Made by SUN STAR.
This die cast is very well done...with so much detail, photo-etched grill and other parts, working suspension, movable sunvisors(front & rear), flip forward seats, steering, detailed motor, jack and spare in the trunk, etc
This is the same colour as my dad's car too. Emerald mist with white.
I've had a framed magazine ad of this car in my garage for 25+ years.
This is the first car I ever drove, at 14 years old in 1967.

This is a big model.. the real car was 19+ feet long.
I remember riding in this as a youngin'... I loved this car.
thanx for looking..

Right on Graham. A great memory connection. That is something to treasure for sure. I'm not an expert but that is one of the best detailed replica cars I have ever seen. If you had photo shopped that onto your driveway, I would never have known it wasn't real.

Wow, what a thoughtful sister.. Amazing detail on that die-cast, I'm going to check out the rest of their products.
That was back in the day when they weren't afraid to use real colours.
For what it's worth the die-cast of my first car cost me more than the real car at the time. Probably because I don't have a sister. Fantastic gift!

...and sun visors on the back window? Cool with a capital K

I found video(movies) of me driving the Olds at the campground in the summer of 1967, I would have been 14 years old. Pulling the trailer out and also taking the car to get it washed. That's my dad directing me into the wash hose rack...!

Big Car memories

Thanx for looking.
