My '93 has been running great. Drove 20km this morning to town, ran fine. On the way home she backfired a few times when I sped up. Solid misfire a couple of times on the side streets. Weather was just at freezing and air was moist. Could it be something like carb ice(I know it has mpfi)? Has ran great till now.

Have the Optispark distributor ever been replaced?
Look if the water pump leaks, if it does, it drops straight on the distributor and cause all sort of problem as you described...

I'd check your gas as well. Near freezing temps can cause water problems due to condensation. I saw that you had some stabilizer in, but you might want to try some water absorber and see if that takes care of it. Might be simpler than the ignition...
