C8 transmission filter service

I dropped my '23 C8 off at the dealers today for my 2nd free oil change, and the GM letter said to have the tranny filter serviced also, before 12,000 km. (I'm at 11,400)
I see some posts saying it's complimentary, others quoting 700-900 CAD. Dealer told me 950 plus tax. What's the distinction between free/900?

Mine was free but I was within the date and 12k +\- 500 .
Price sounds right if you had to pay it but shouldn’t unless it’s been > 24 months since you took possession

First DCT change with a 2023 is on GM if within 2 years of delivery date. The 2023’s do not have a mileage requirement that came in with the 2024+ C8’s.

I took delivery in May, '23, so I am within 2 years. The work is being done at this moment, I'll ask at the service desk when I pick up the car later today.

Nice, you are perfectly within GM’s mileage window for a new DCT filter. Sorry, I wrote my post quickly before the coffee set in this morning thinking everyone knows about the required 12,000 km +/- 800 km for a DCT change. Many 2023 owners were pressed by dealers to burn the free filter at the first oil change when mileage was nowhere close to 12K, so owners made the adjustment and paid that initial oil service out of pocket to drive further and bank the next oil change & DCT filter on service visit #2 sometime before the two year period expired.

I asked why some customers got it free, she showed me the letter listing the work scheduled, there was no line for a free dct filter, that some letters had.
But the kicker was; $292 for the filter. Amazon has an *identical* one, same part number, 24045729, for $28. I'll be doing the next one myself. I watched a YouTube clip to see what was involved,, seemed to take only 20-30 minutes if you had power tools. The book rate of 3.5 hours is big time exorbitant.
Bill was $1050 with tax.

Call conciergerie ,if you are sure you did it in the correct time and mileage frame. My dealership did mine for free and I wasn't exactly in the recommended mileage.

Take the home office letter to them.

Thanks, Murray. Under Reminder, it says "filter replacement ... at the time of their first oil change". This was my 2nd oil change. That may be why I didn't get the freebee.
I did go to GM's site and complained under "contact us". Will see if that does anything.
I will print both the Tech Link page and the letter and visit the service dept again.

I too will do my own filter when the time comes, likely the spring of 2027.
However I will not get the filter from Amazon no matter what the price. Too many cheap knockoffs sold by crooks.
Buy the filter from GM, you are saving a ton of money anyway doing the work yourself.

I tend to agree. The $28 one will be a cheap knockoff. But, I will shop around different GM sources. I previously found red seat belts for $300 cad, rather than pay the dealer $695 to add the option. It took 30 minutes to install them.

As for the 3.2 hours book rate, there a total of 39 bolts to re & re. It takes less than 5 seconds each x 2 with power tools. 6.5 minutes. Add 10 min to lift the car, 5 min to pull the filter cover, 5 min to replace 2 "O" rings. How do they get to 3.2 hours? At $180/hr.

For anyone planning to do a filter change, I've been searching for a good deal for a genuine GM filter, part 24045729.
Best I see in Ontario is True North Chev, a GM dealer in North bay, ON. $155.12 thru Parts dept, but they also sell on eBay,
Genuine GM Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter Kit 24045729 | eBay (https://www.ebay.ca/itm/405131694468) for $124.39 cad plus $4 shipping.

~$40 seems to be the going "good" price for 19418016 fluid from a few sources.

You'll need 2 Torx pattern sockets, E8 and E16 as well as 10mm and 13mm 6 point, cordless driver/ratchet, and extension.

I'm convinced that it won't take anywhere near the 3.2 hours gm book time.

The Milton dealer did mine just last week, so I'm good for a while. I did the research to gauge just how bad I was ripped off.

Ya, sorry I forgot that. I don't know why everyone doesn't get the scheduled service contract. It's cheap comparatively. I wish I knew about it before I got the first canister change. Would have saved me $800

You have to be careful doing the trans filter yourself, there is a reverse flush they do on the transmission before changing the filter. May void your warranty if it’s not done.
