This week 3 push button Toyota trucks in my area were stolen in the same night and a forth was underway. This has me worried because I saw many videos to find out how easy it is to capture and copy the fob signal to open doors and take off with any push button car. I'm going to put a kill switch in my C7. I am used to previous generations of electronic with a distributor cap so putting a switch was easy. Now with coil packs I'd like to know where to put a switch in there or maybe I could go with the fuel pump. On a trail truck I had I had 2 switches, one on the distributor and one on the pump.

Anyone know where I can cut wires for the ignition? I might go to the dealer later this spring and see if I can buy shop manuals.

The thieves seem to take much less time than the locksmith. As was stated - more time, more risk so they want in and out asap.
Good place to put a cut out switch is the wire going to the solenoid that engages the starter.
soen you have to think about where to put the switch so it is not easily seen.

Oh yes that's a good idea, it'll be easy to locate the wire, I just hope I have enough room for my hands to reach the firewall and under the dash. If not I'll use a rigid fish like I used on the van, it made the job easier.

About the comment they can steal my car... Mine has many options so it would be almost impossible to find another at that price I think.

They can take mine and I get a new one - LOL!!
Thats fine unless they recover it and has the crap driven out of it. Happened to my son in-law. Car got stolen but they found it a week later and was returned to him. Then the transmission blew up. Had to have the ignition fixed after they started it with a screw driver.

I can't be too worked up over theft.
I would definitely be upset even though I have
2 years of no loss replacement coverage remaining.
They will cut me a check for what I paid
as there is no more New C7's that will match.
Plenty of previously enjoyed beauties though.

Theft is definitely one of the most bitter pills to swallow.

I had a beautiful 4Runner on 33" mud tires stolen once and I was so upset it was unbelievable. I literally drove my bicycle in all the surrounding trails for 2 days. After a week the police called me saying it was left in a field. The guy wore out the clutch and I was on foot for a total of 2 weeks while the garage replaced it. I had in it a brand new set of ratchets and other tools, gone.

Since then I've had most but not all my vehicles with a hidden switch.

My neighbour had his beloved Hummer stolen from him while he was at work and in the workplace lot. Came out after his shift and it was gone. Weeks later they found it at the local Indian reserve. Stripped and then set on fire. Broke his heart.

I was thinking about all the computers now on the cars and wondering if you put a kill switch to the starter solenoid if this would not register a "No Start" DTC code. Maybe a consult with your dealer would be a good idea before putting in a kill switch just so it does not throw codes on each start.

Based on my experience I won't get an appropriate answer from the dealer, I bet no one will know the outcome and I bet I'll get the default fall back answer it'll void the warranty...But I'll call a few places to see what they suggest.

If it throws a code I can erase it with my scan tool.

I bought one of those key fob bags off amazon so no signal from my fob leaves the house. Helps the vette is in the garage.

Question is, do they really work?

And how can thieves intercept the signal if the fob is not in use? I think the only way it can be intercepted is if the fob actively sends a signal all the time?? A friend of mine who's a radio wiz could intercept the waves only when a garage door opened with a regular scanner. All you had to do is write down the frequency and with a radio transmit the frequency and the door would open.

A little obsessive. The last thing I worry about is my corvette getting stolen. Worry more about getting dinged in a parking lot. Insuring mine beginning of Feb. and driving her!!

I'm going to move to Vancouver. LOL

Bring lots of cash! 15%+ taxes on cars depending on cost. Socialist government! Getting crowded - lots of Asians and Persians - inflating the cost of housing. In ten years Persian and Chinese will be the official languages; but, other than that, climate pretty good: lots of rain in the fall/winter.

They dismantled a large car theft ring in the city not too long ago and another one popped up and it's on the news again. There are many undesirables in my area, my house was burglarized and I caught 3 people who cased my place afterwards. A few times my propane tank for the BBQ were pulled to the end of the chain. A block away where I used to live, christmas lights in the tree would vanish. My landlord said hello to the burglar who was crouched inside my truck taking out my stereo. She thought it was me.

These last 2 years a few house including the one in back of mine were broken into(probably my felon neighbor). last but not least my neighbor broke down my cable fence and stole it!

I'm not obsessive, I'm pro active.

They do work. A key fob is not like a garage opener. When you go to start your car you don't push any buttons on the fob. The fob automatically activates when it is near the vehicle. There was an Audi stolen in my neighbourhood a few months back and the robbers had a set of bunny ears and went to the front door in the middle of the night. They were able to make the fob think it was close to the audi and send its signal. They copied the signal and used it to unlock and drive the audi away. I know this because I know the neighbour and he has surveillance cam footage of the robbers at his doors. They had to get close enough to activate his fob.

The bag I bought works. I put the fob in the bag and then went to the vehicle and there was no signal, the vehicle would not unlock. I then unlocked the vehicle and put the fob in the bag, got in the vehicle and tried to start it. The vehicle would not detect the fob and it was like I had no key. The bag acts like a faraday cage
