Featured Anyone Watching 2023 NHL Playoffs?

Featured Thread
There were a number of factors last night that hurt the Oilers. Stupid penalties for sure was one of them but officiating tended to be a bit one sided. The overtime goal was an obvious high stick which shouldn't have counted. Video shows it clearly but Ref's reviewed and allowed it. Oh well. Spilt milk. We will see what happens tomorrow.

No pressure tho....

😅
We will learn whether he is a clutch playoff goalie or a regular season set of pads. This is his moment on the stage, especially after getting the hook a couple of days ago.

And yes everyone else needs to show up, both body and brain….

Skinner is unproven, but we'll see. He didn't fair that well last night, though I admit I didn't watch the game. Campbell was supposed to be the man, but look where that went. I never thought he was that good with Toronto. The defense in front of him was good. Go Kings ... er ... I mean Go Oilers!
Come on Murray Toronto had a good defense?? When in the 60's? :Woot:Toronto has the same issues as the Oilers. All offense and no defense or goal tending. And lets be honest D wins championships, and paying a player like Darnell Nurse $9.5 Million a year may cripple the Oilers for the foreseeable future unfortunately.

Look at the stats! Last year was a huge difference defensively.

2020-2021 Leafs 5th best - Edmonton 20th (Shots against)
2021-2022 Leafs 9th best - Edmonton 21st
2022-2023 Leafs 7th best - Edmonton 19th

I think I found a leafs fan .............. and no doubt Oilers D is terrible but shots against is a small piece of the puzzle. Shots I agree is part of the equation but scoring chances is much more meaningful as is time of possession. The leafs have the puck a lot which is great and obviously a good offense is the best defense as you don't get scored against if you have the puck, but when they don't have the puck on their stick Toronto is in trouble. And sorry to say but until a teams leaders make defense more important then their offense they won't win. Look at all the teams leaders who win, defense is primary. Red wings started winning when Yzerman became an all around player, Colorado when Sakic did the same, LA, the Ducks, Tampa, the list goes on, all defensive teams with defensive leaders. Boston is my pick this year.

Fine look at the goals for and against. It's about the the same. Edmonton is leading in goals for, but are mediocre (17th) in goals against. Toronto is good 9th in goals for and 7th in goals against. Sorry, but you state no stats. It's just your opinion and I disagree and have provided stats.

Season stats are what commentators talk about between periods to fill in time. What happens regular season doesn't mean much in the playoffs. We've seen some pretty low standing teams play some damn good hockey in the playoffs and this year is no different. Yes. The best combination of defense and offence should come out on top but never say never for any of them. A Canadian team in the final will make me happy whether it's Edmonton or Toronto. The north is due.

Stats are great, but they tell a very small piece of the picture Murray we both know that. Would you rather have Morgan Rielly Evan Bouchard or Cale Makar on D if you were in game 7 of the Stanley cup? I know who i would pick and I also know who has the worst playoff stats of all 3 right now. I might also take Brad Marchant over 99% of the forwards in the NHL because he is a playoff player and is great defensively and knows how to win in the playoffs. Again leadership, it's important in the playoffs. Not so much in regular season where guys like Johnny Gueaudreau can look like elite players only to be ghosts in playoffs, he might have 5 points in a 6-1 win but in a 2-1 playoff game he is blanked and vapor out there.

And I agree that a Canadian team would be great to see but I just don't think that either Toronto or the Oilers have a good enough playoff build team to do it. I think the only Matt Murray on the leafs has won a cup and don't think anyone on the Oilers, that's difficult to win with.
But as I said I hope one of them at least has a good run and get some playoff experience because without more experience neither of them are going to hoist lord Stanley.

You can gamble with anything you like Richard. Maybe some of those Ont. guys would actually even take a wager.... ;)
OK I will take bets totalling up to 10,000 of the rarest Vette Coins that the Leafs are FINISHED tonight. Bets finalized at start of game.
