Antenna issues

Having trouble with my antenna going down. Sometimes it works fine and other times I can close my door hard or tap on my quarter panel and it will go down. Any help appreciated.

Can you get at the motor from inside the car on a C4 or do you have to go from underneath?
I’m guessing at dirt in the motor or a bad ground..

It's under the fender well. I thought maybe a ground or loose connection

I would guess not the wiring, as you state a solid blow to the body is what activates it. The wiring just hangs there and would or should not respond to a hit. The antenna unit is hooked to the body thus will sense the shock, and I'm thinking the motor may have a dead spot in it and needs that little jar to get it turning. Could be just dirty armature where the brushes make contact. Here's a pic of my 82 that had a broken mast cable that I repaired, the antenna assembly is probably close to what yours is just for reference.

Can you get to the antenna from behind the carpet or do u have to remove the fender well.

Mine broken off I still get good reception , not replacing it looks ok
