I noticed a few weeks ago that my card was full. The PDR was set to record over old files, but it didn't. It filled up and stopped recording. I'd get a message saying the card was full (or something like that).
Anyway, it's not a big deal. I wiped the card and it's worked well once again. I just thought I'd mention it. It might just be a 2020 thing.

Of course there is always an AI interpretation…..
The PDR (Performance Data Recorder) in the C8 Corvette can indeed be set to record continuously and automatically upon vehicle startup or when the car goes into accessory mode. There is a specific setting called “automatic recording” that enables the PDR system to start recording as soon as the car is started or put into accessory mode without needing to manually hit the record button each time.
Additionally, you can enable settings such as “allow recording overwrite,” which lets the system overwrite older recordings when the SD card is full, ensuring continuous loop recording without stopping.
This setup effectively turns the PDR into a dash-cam-like system that records continuously and automatically with each vehicle startup, capturing both video and audio if enabled.
So yes, the C8 Corvette’s PDR can be set for continuous automatic recording on startup
The ability to set the PDR (Performance Data Recorder) in the C8 Corvette to record continuously and automatically on vehicle startup applies to all C8 model years that come equipped with the PDR system. This feature is available at least from the early model years of the C8 Corvette (including 2021 and onward) that have the PDR option.
Owners of various C8 models, including the Z51 trim and others equipped with PDR, have confirmed that you can enable automatic recording upon startup, allowing the system to start recording video and audio without manual intervention every time the vehicle is started or placed in accessory mode.
To summarize:
• The system automatically records video/audio on startup when enabled in settings.
• Overwrite settings can be enabled to continuously record in a loop.
• This functionality is standard with PDR across all C8 model years that have this option, including early versions like the 2021 model.
So yes, this automatic continuous recording on startup is a feature consistent across all C8 Corvette model years equipped with the PDR.

Probably good practice to have it record continuously on startup in the event of an accident or other situation where that footage could come in handy. Apparently you can set it to overwrite. When you reset it let us know what happens. Any idea how many km’s it takes to fill a 256 or 512 card set on 1080p ? I have used mine a few times out of curiosity but didn’t have it set to record continuously. I think I will now.

When I last emptied the card it took 8 months to fill. 285 trips. Each trip likely averaging roughly around 10 minutes per trip. A 15 minute trip uses roughly 1.5 gig. I highly recommend having it start every trip. That saved me about 3 grand when I hit a pothole and wrecked my tire and rim thanks to it and the region of Durham.
250gig / 285 = 870 meg

Hello Murray,
The Region of Durham reimbursed you damage in full.

I suppose they can afford it as are installing a revolving door worth $1 million in the front entrance and purchasing $4000 refrigerators for the lunch rooms. Good to see my tax dollar hard at work.

I believe it is about 3.5-4GB for an hour drive.

I do recall you sharing that experience. I have a 512 gb card in there and am going to set it to record continuously. As a bonus there is no subscription required.

For what it’s worth…..it obviously varies.
Recording 1080p video to an SD card typically requires about 6 to 24 GB of storage per hour, depending on factors such as bitrate, frame rate, and compression method used by the camera.
Here are some key points from the references:
• One calculation based on dashcam data suggests a 128GB SD card can hold around 20-24 hours of 1080p video at 10-12 Mbps bitrate and 30fps, which corresponds to about 6 GB per hour of recording .
• Another source estimates 1080p recording consumes about 2.5 minutes per GB, which translates to approximately 24 GB per hour of video recording data .
• Streaming 1080p video (not recording directly) usually consumes between 1.5 GB to 3 GB of data per hour depending on quality and frame rate .
Since recording data size varies widely by camera and recording settings, a practical range to consider is:
• 6 GB per hour (common dashcam bitrate around 10 Mbps)
• Up to 24 GB per hour for higher bitrate or less compression recordings
For most typical consumer devices recording 1080p at 30fps with moderate compression, expect somewhere around 6-12 GB per hour of SD card storage usage.
If you need a precise figure for a specific device or bitrate, please provide more detail about the camera or recording settings.

The closest I have is 31.47 minutes and 28.02 minutes. Splitting the difference works out to about 2.7 gig for 30 minutes or 5.4 gig per hour at 1080p 30fps.

Ya that’s plenty when you think about it. Any you want to save you can copy them and stick the card back in. Great feature overall actually.

Had the same thing happen to me, and mine is a 2020.
