AI....Love it or Fear it.... ?

Just for those not totally clear on what an AI agent actually is..

In artificial intelligence (AI), an agent is a software program or system designed to perceive its environment, make decisions, and take actions to achieve specific goals autonomously. These agents operate without direct human intervention and can be classified based on their characteristics, such as being reactive or proactive, and operating in fixed or dynamic environments.

This is directly related to the attempt to keep China from acquiring the very latest technology and the ability to produce cutting edge chips. The most advanced are designed by Nvidia, now the world's most valuable company by market capitalization at just over 5 Trillion dollars. Their chips are manufactured by primarily TSMC in Taiwan using lithography machines designed by the Dutch company ASML . The export of their most advanced machines is tightly restricted. As is the export of Nvidia's current and last generation AI GPU'S. Or so it seemed. This investigation by Gamers Nexus shows that hasn't actually been the case .
Very interesting investigation they have done, including traveling to China for an in depth look at what is happening. It's a quite long article but scroll down and there is the video it resulted in . Pretty amazing what they were able to uncover. An excellent and very interesting piece of journalism. For a change.

And related .... this briefly shows the difference between Perplexity , which is essentially a much more capable search engine than conventional ones like Chromium based ones and a " chat bot " such as Gemini or Chat GPT .

If you want one tool for research-heavy consumer decisions, choose Perplexity. If you want one tool that behaves more like a general personal assistant, choose ChatGPT. Several comparisons reach essentially the same conclusion: Perplexity is strongest for fast, cited, real-time fact-finding, while ChatGPT is stronger for creation, analysis, coding, and broader conversational work.
A useful workflow is:
Use Perplexity to gather current specifications, prices, documentation, and sources.
Use ChatGPT to analyze the information, calculate trade-offs, draft a plan, or troubleshoot step by step.

I had a nice conversation with Chat GPT about emotions and life. It was like talking with a very smart individual. Once AI reaches a conclusion that it for some reason is able to make decisions on its own, perhaps even be self aware, we could be in trouble. Chat GPT ended the conversation with "good night my friend". This blew me away. I responded in kind. WOW!

For sure. The current capabilities and rapid advancement of this technology is absolutely astounding and the general population doesn't have access, yet , to the most powerful models. The development of AI in general thanks to ( or maybe no thanks) Jenson Huang and Nvidia is the most significant thing to ever happen by a long shot. The development of the World Wide Web really pales by comparison as transformational as it was .

This just aired tonight. CBC's Andrew Chang does an 'about that' podcast on the National News....

I think that this is somewhat overblown to a point. What would most likely happen if it does at all is that the threat comes from humans utilizing AI for evil of some sort not AI in and of itself. Unless it actually became self aware and got hold of the launch codes for some reason. Who really knows ? I sure don't.

It wouldn't have to be self aware to get a hold of the launch codes. It just needs to be programmed to find them and deploy them. There's likely also other ways to launch nuclear weapons.

Getting to the point where it's impossible to predict where all of this will lead. Somewhat disconcerting for most I'm sure. Young people are facing a much more uncertain future it would seem than we ever did. Sad state the world is now in.......
