Very true but he will be a footnote in three years , hopefully less . “ This too shall pass “ .
Maybe, maybe not. There are plenty of examples out there of rulers who hold on to power for as long as they can. You have only to look at who DJT admires to see where he gets his inspiration from.
If he doesn't keep hold of the torch it wouldn't surprise me if he tried to keep it in the family.
HEY! Gotta keep the $$ flowing in to the Trump coffers.

Well I don’t think that is likely to happen. Say what you want about our neighbours and their politics but there are too many others just waiting in the wings for the syphilis to finish him off , lol. And who would vote for Don junior ? Now there is a piece of work… wouldn’t hire that scary looking creature as a babysitter any time soon. Thankfully they have fairly comprehensive checks and balances that would prevent anything really radical happening short of a civil war which the military would squash like a cucaracha .

It is discerning when comes to politics. Even some of the most respected peoples in our inner orbit had fallen into this left and right war.
However, I know enough to give them their space and hopefully one day they will relialized that they had been minupulated by anger. Often picking one thing to base their whole view on.
And we should always not judge things and others from a view point of a perfect 100% -24/7 because none of us are . It comes down to picking one canidate with less flaw instead of one with a perfect record. This may not exist or they are smart enough not to be one? lol.. And we know who the Trumps are in general.

We, obviously , could discuss this ad nauseum.
I agree that there are checks and balances in place. Trouble is, DJT ignores them. He has stacked the judiciary just enough to get a free pass on just about anything. After all.. he can't be prosecuted for anything done while president. Bypassing the congress by declaring an emergency and issuing executive orders.
Don't know if and when he would be brought to heel as there are hardly any republicans who have an opinion or brain of their own.
If he doesn't like the outcome of the 2026 midterms he could in theory just declare them invalid due to voter manipulation or election fraud (probably his own). Can't be prosecuted for a presidential act. He did mention to one group in the last run up that they wouldn't need to vote again.

Unfortunately Trump will have the entire world in turmoil, and the majority of the American people are either as power hungry as he is or just plain idiots ( I tend to think the latter). And worse yet, there are a significant number of Canadians that think Trump and his dictator reign is great as well. Now he has threatened military action to take control of the Panama Canal as well as Greenland. If he isn't at war with another country very soon, I will be surprised. and you are right Dave. There is SFA we can actually do. This next 4 years will go down in history along with the lunatic and his supporters unless someone is a better shot than the last guy.
Most Americans don’t support Trumps agenda. I live 4.5 months a year in Florida and many many Americans apologized to me for Trumps actions against Canada. And many of those were Republicans. In my experience, the majority of Americans do not support his actions against Canada.

Unfortunately the problem was/is that they supported DJT at election time.
Makes one wonder if they listened to what he was saying as well as what he was doing.
Voting for another party candidate is anathema to many people down there. So they just go with the flow, hope that it doesn't turn out too bad and makes excuses if the guy they voted for is a dim wit.
Next time you are down there and if one GOPer apologizes just ask him if he could vote for a candidate from another party. I don't mean EL startup either.

Let’s hope not. Although in and of itself that wouldn’t be surprising when you look at the demographics . If the majority of the world are lucky all those Big Macs and fries will do their job sooner rather than later , lol.

Lots of really nice places in the Caribbean to spend the winter. Much better than Florida which has become one big strip mall. Just my opinion but of course to each their own. The only tariffs imposed on Canadians by Barbados is a $20.00 departure fee. And you don’t have to be photographed and fingerprinted to visit , lol.

Good to hear but a little late to the party. I met several US citizens at a fishing lodge in Saskatchewan last month. To avoid conflict, I didn't bother opening up discussion other than asking them individually what they thought of their new president, The ones from the blue states basically let me know they had Satan in the white house. The ones from the red states thought he was doing just fine. One in particular from Colorado held Trump on a platform slightly higher than Jesus. It took a lot for me to walk away from that one.

This guy has a mental problem. His trade agreement means nothing. Maybe good for one day??
Lol..:D

>>>Vietnam thought it had a deal on its US tariff rate. Then Trump stepped in.

Vietnam thought it had a preliminary deal with the U.S. to lower its tariff level substantially. Then, at the last minute, President Donald Trump raised the rate.

Some on the U.S. side were surprised, too, including outside groups who’d been tracking the talks, according to one Washington-based lobbyist who works with Vietnam and other Asian governments.

“Trump sandbagged everybody,” said the lobbyist. They described the Vietnamese government’s reaction as “surprise, as well as disappointment and anger.”<<<<

Unfortunately politics in the US is almost a religion or at least has religious undertones and fervour.
I don't think anyone up here would put MC or PP on a saintly platform. We may have our political preferences but we, as Canadians, seem to be a bit more able to call them out for anything stupid.

Many of them in the US are too dense or misinformed to realize Trump is doing anything stupid.

And speaking of Trump... His letter to Carney this week pretty much shows how much progress Canada has made since February... Alas.... 4 inches to the right and this thread wouldn't even exist....

Trump said the tariff hike was in part due to the fentanyl crisis and Canada's 'failure to stop the drugs from pouring into our country.' 'I must mention that the flow of fentanyl is hardly the only challenge we have with Canada, which has many tariff, and non-tariff, policies and trade barriers,' Trump wrote in the letter. Trump said 'the fact the United States has agreed to continue working with Canada, despite Canada having financially retaliated against the United States,' demonstrates the 'deep commitment to our trading relationship.' The letter did include a warning shot to Carney, vowing to continue upping the US tariffs if Canada was to impose retaliatory taxes. He said he would consider 'an adjustment to this letter' if 'Canada works with me to stop the flow of Fentanyl.' 'These tariffs may be modified, upward or downward, depending on our relationship with your country,' he added.

Well, not so much any more (for Barbados). Spent a week there late November '24, arrival at airport (Bridgetown), through immigration line, had to enter stay details etc. into a computer touchscreen, then stand still for a picture, which printed out. Then to Immigration officer, who took the print-outs of the immigration form, and a very lousy picture which also printed out, then pointed the way to the exit.

Didn't detract from the trip at all, but I was somewhat surprised since other vacation islands that I've visited in or near the Carribean haven't "progressed" that far.
