Totally agree. It's easy now to say we can build more pipelines, more ports, more manufacturing plants, but long before the billions we spend and the time it takes to get them built, the country will be bankrupt and the Americans will have taken us over. Sad but all too likely. Sad but Canada has never really been one to think of the 'what ifs'.
This should have all been done years ago, like I said this is not the first time tariffs have been placed on Canada by the USA and not just by Trump, to bad we didn’t do anything then, I hope we have learned a lesson here and will do something about it, even if it does take us 20 years.
Your right there probably negotiation tactics by Trump, but if the tariffs do go in and Canada reply’s with its own tariffs, then just think of it being a large tax on Canadians, as there’s no way the Canadian government is not going to keep that 25% for itself.
It doesn't go into some hidden pocket. It goes to budget in some form. To Trump it fills his coffers for some evil end. Already he has his billionaire buddy slashing jobs.
Here’s a novel idea. At least for our current government. Use any revenue from counter tariffs to pay down the national debt which they have more than doubled to over $ 1,500,000,000,000 .
