Well, after all the rumours about these transmissions, it looks like my luck has run out too. Car only has 2500km and is driving great, but keeps throwing a code about a shift fork un-commanded movement or not in correct position. GM says a transmission change is required. Car was broken in and has never been driven hard. If I had to guess the problem lies with a faulty sensor, but I am not a mechanic. My questions are.. How big of a job is it, should it be going to a dealer with specialized techs? Should I be requesting an updated transmission (I understand there is a new version 2024?). Any info you guys could pass along would be appreciated.

No I will not be tracking it. One would hope.. with all the problems they’ve had.. there would be some other improvements/upgrades in there as well? Or maybe not.

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. But seriously, the way some speak about the “new” DCT is like there is a reengineered wholly improved transmission. Guys, there is no new DCT, nothing new in terms of internals for Die3 that showed up mid/late summer 2023. It is still the same good or bad DCT from GM. The late MY23 running change will undoubtedly be for the better and in the end longevity. But be clear, it was to improve high speed lubrication. The addition of baffles in the pan were deemed helpful to further direct tranny fluid to the pick up under certain driving conditions (alleviating the need for additional fluid as was the case in pre-late 23 cars). So, an engineering change yes, an improvement sure ok (especially if one drives like a jackass on the street or does high speed events) but a new DCT no chance.

Thanks guys. I’m pretty disheartened by this purchase so far. The excitement of buying this car was overshadowed initially, when the dealer wouldn’t deliver it (after the deal was completed and payment received) due to the DRL software recall. So there it sat until GM designed a fix. And now back multiple times troubleshooting a CEL only to discover it needs a new transmission. On a car I’ve driven a handful of times.. mostly to the dealership lol. This transmission will be fixed, but are the DCT reliability issues solved? What happens when this starts happening to members here outside of warranty? I’m guessing it’s a 20k job? That one might be a harder one to swallow. I’m not bashing the car, but one just has to search C8 DCT and there’s a lot of history on this. One would think GM/Tremec would have sorted this out by now.

Hello Vetted,
Sorry to here about the recall delays and whatnot.
I have had zero issue with mine so far and I am not at all easy on it.

I know that there will be some here to will denounce it, but for if you plan on keeping this awesome but highly complicated car past the warranty, I would suggest the extended warranty (unless you are "driving miss daisy".)
I never purchase extended warranties for any other daily driver vehicles but for my C8 it is a different story. Not much on this type of vehicle is easy or cheap to fix.
I have piece of mine with my extended warranty that I have nothing to worry about for the next 7 years and can drive it like it is meant to be driven.

I'm on my fourth brand new C8 and don't believe the way you drive it during break in makes much difference ( feel like if it's a bad DCT nothing much you can do ), all my cars have been driven hard from day 1 and all have had no DCT issues, I would definitely try to find a dealer that has done a DCT swap previous.

I also believe in an early DCT filter change ( I do mine around 3000km) then again at 10 000km which GM recommends

I use one of my free oil changes at 3000km and while the car is already up on the hoist have them do the DCT filter
Total cost about $300 out of pocket, $150 for filter and an hour labour seems like good insurance to me
