Hey Guys!

So I just finished getting my new motor in and did my break in runs today and noticed something. My tach works perfectly up until it hits 2700 then it sticks there and if you keep into it the tach starts reading again around 4500. So there is a dead spot between 2700 and 4500. Is it the board or the filter? The filter is kind of rough. I had to reattach the wire coming off of it. But then again maybe I'm trying to blame the filter so that I don't have to take off my dash again which I just had off.

Thanks!

I've done alot of board repairs to pinball machines, jukeboxes and other stuff but never worked on a tach. Sounds like a bad resistor . Slim chance but it could be a crack around a pin too. I found many solder cracks around pins on boards that cause problems, fixed many GM wiper motors that are famous for this simple fix. I did a quick search and this link may give you a idea of what to look for if you have some skills in electronics.

sheesh.... Michael.... you are a man of many talents...

...Thanks Ruruuff, I'm a jack off all trades but master of none. Just had a Yamaha gas golf cart, thing runs but stops for no reason any time it feels like it, no spark, but in a few minutes or days it fires again. Everything else electrical checked ok but there is no way to check the cd ignitor box. Yamaha wants $602.00 for the box. As a rule most things like that are sealed in epoxy, but I snapped open the plastic case and the tiny board inside is not epoxied, just lovely !! under the magnifying glass and sure enough a crack around one pin on the board, just a hit with the soldering iron and she is fixed. Alot of this electrcal stuff 2day is abig rip off and people pay cause no choice. I also just fixed a few ETR radio's like my corvette has, segments in the digital display are missing . Same thing, just resolder and few places on the board and the display is perfect again.

Thanks XFire.

I was hoping it wasn't board related but it keeps sounding more and more like it is. I was hoping it wasn't because I've heard people with board problems seem to just get stuck and don't move were as mine does work fine it just has that dead spot. I think I probably could solder it but if I have to take the whole dash out again I'll probably just replace the whole board.

Thanks for your help guys.
