SOUND BITES FROM FIVE C8'S HEADING OUT ON THE ROAD

In the hundreds of thousands of miles of C8 testing, we are aware of one tow truck incident that was over eight months ago.

Hundreds of thousands of miles?
Wow had no idea they put that kind of mileage on them.
I never keep one past 6000 miles so I’m feeling safe in a C8.

GM’s standard is that every new vehicle must complete at least 300,000 miles of public road testing. Some are tested in excess of 1,000,000 miles (like the 2019 Silverado trucks). GM’s component standards are as rigorous, or more so, that other OEMs. One example is that the dash material must be exposed to 100,000 hours of direct Arizona sunlight and have no fade. Obviously they can not let a new vehicle sit outside in Arizona for 15 years, so they do what is called something like “accelerated environmental testing” in their specialized climate testing labs.

Remember this light blue in the 2017 Grand Sport introduced at the Geneva Auto Show? It was first tested in the GM climate lab and at 90,000 hours it started to show a small amount of fade. GM therefore rejected the supplier’s material, told them to start again, improve and re-submit it for a new round of testing (exactly what was done and the second time it met the 100,000 standard). I'm thinking that GM does not test new vehicles any more rigorously than the other car manufacturer . It seems GM missed something that has them being sued in regards to the Z06's overheating in a short time on the track. That being said the C8 is a long awaited dream for many but not all, I personally would wait till the second year of production. As in everything in life to each his own, you can either accept certain options or not.

It is definitely not a bad plan to wait until the second year of production. Even JD Power and Consumer Reports have repeated stated that we do not care whether it is a Rolls Royce or similar, they recommend waiting until the second year of a new generation or a greatly changed model.

Heretofore we have always waited until the second year of a Corvette generation. This time we are going to get a very early production one, maybe even a first week one, and then double back and trade it in on a Z06 in year three.
