Warning! Quantum dot tv's

Just bought 4 new tv's. Wanted a larger tv for the deck. Bought a TCL 50 inch Qled tv. Very nice tv. Works well on the deck so I thought I'd upgrade my office tv. Bought a larger Mini LED Qdot TCL tv. It came damaged. A small dent in the box = broken screen. It's sitting in my barn waiting to go to the dump. Amazon sent me a new one. It sucks!! Worst tv I've ever seen. Faces in the background are clay-faced (for lack of a better term). Anyway, I upgraded the pool room with it. (I'll donate the plasma it replaces.) I bought a Samsung latest and greatest Quantum dot Oled tv. I discovered that people who wear glasses will notice a lot of colour banding when looking at it from different angles and heights. Same on the TCL and the Samsung. Drove me crazy. I returned the Samsung and bought a Sony "Woled" tv. (Woled = White emitting Oled, Qdot = Blue emitting Oled). MUCH better!!

So beware if you wear glasses I do not recommend a Qdot tv.

Tech advancement at it's finest... lol... I have a buddy who buys a new TV at least every year because he HAS to have the latest in technology...

TV tech changes daily.
I only buy LG televisions.
They seem to last a decent life, and have the best (or close enough) side angle viewing.

Unbiased reviews for most brands here:

Funny thing. All Oled tv's use LG Oled panels (or did until very recently). The electronics behind them are different with different manufacturers

I have a 65 inch LG C9 a 2019 model which I also use as a PC monitor. It now has 13,400 hrs on it and still looks like it did new . No burn in at all. You really can’t beat OLED if you get the right one. Picture is stunning. They can all look a bit wonky if you wear glasses with any amount of tint like transitions for example though. Pool room ? As in pool table or do you have an indoor swimming pool ?

Billiard room. :)
As long as you don't leave anything small and bright in any one location on the screen your OK.
OLEDs that display the same high intensity image will deteriorate faster than those that display less intensity images.
OLEDs also have a life time.
You've done well if you're using it on a PC.
I have (had) three quantum dot tv's and now 2 Woled ones. The Woled does not do anything like the Qdot ones do.
Note the blue line on top of the white circle and the blue on the bottom. It gets significantly worse when viewed through different areas on my glasses. People with good vision may not even see what I see.

I forgot to mention that my prescriptions have Ultraviolet filters in them. That might be a factor.
I have not compared glossy vs matte screens side by side but that also can make a difference especially in bright rooms. Brightness, nits , also makes a big difference. My c9 generates 850 in HDR whereas the new LG G5 can reach 2500 . The 65 inch G5 though is $3,995 and the c9 cost me around $2,200 . Pay to play…..
What do you have for a table ? And do you still play ?

My LG is a 55C8
It's a 4x8 Dufferin snooker table. Snooker pockets which make it harder than pool table pockets.
Yes, I still play although old shaky limbs and glasses makes me a not so good player any more. lol

Alright this is the problem. You 2 are Mods and know have jacked the thread towards pocket pool. This is why Rruuff is so salty towards me...
Well, it IS in the Off-topic forum after all. lol

Had an old 4 1/2 x9 slate table that we put snooker cushions on years ago. For the last 25 years I have had a 5x10 Brunswick snooker table in my garage. Grew up playing snooker. Go back to a coin table and it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

Axe will play 8 ball (for anything) all day long.
There's a Brunswick 8 ball table in the basement collecting dust.
I spent a large percentage of my youth in the "ball hall" on 6X12's, playing snooker, life and golf.
I can't even see the far end of a 6X12 now.
It was always my favourite passtime . Always a big fan of English Billiards. Missed more than one class back then…..No two games are ever the same . Misspent youth they say. Actually far from it.

A billiards thread... lol... What next. I played both 8 ball and snooker for many years in NS. My buddy's dad had a 12 foot slate table that we played on just about every night. And yes. Playing on a coin-op 8 foot table is pretty easy compared to a snooker table. Last time I played 8 ball was in a bar off White avenue in Edmonton. No one was playing so I put my money in and started to rack for my buddy and me. This FBI (the place was full of them) jumps up and tells me it's his table and I have to play him for $10.00 first. He broke and I ran the table. He came around the table yelling that I hustled him and he was gonna take me down.... I told him to keep his 10 bucks and we got the hell out of there.... lol...

My dad had a 5x10 snooker table where I learned to shoot. Took my humble skills to the Don Mills pool hall. It was run and owned by the world Snooker champion at the time. I forget his name. A legend from Canada!
