Hmmmm.... obviously I don't have enough to do on rainy days... But at least I'm not derailing another thread.....
Z06 lawsuit..........In this day and age, when someone can win a law suit for getting hit by a train while walking on the tracks listening to their Ipod, or holding a take- out coffee in their lap and spilling it, GM probably knew there would be a lawsuit coming. Between lawyers, financial advisers, and engineers, I'd be surprised if they haven't run the numbers, calculated how many Z06 owners road race track their cars (as I haven't heard any complaints from the dragsters yet), and then decided to choose the cheaper option. After all, there's a lot that will never be on the track and I haven't heard of any non-track Z06 owners on the forum complaining or calling a lawer.....
So I would guess that GM felt it was more financially attractive to forego the design change and modification cost prior to shipping all those cars to the market and either look after the complaint as a recall for the race tracked vehicles, and/or prepare for a class action suit. It's not like the car going into limp mode puts the driver headfirst into the wall.... or threatens the lives of school children, puppy dogs and little old ladies around the world....
So what will the settlement be.... For a math exercise example here alone, a design change and modification of the car before it leaves the factory might cost $ 2,000.00 per car. Using 50,000 cars for my shot in the dark example, that's 100 million loonies.... So of the 50,000 cars, maybe 5,000 of those drivers track their car to the point of overheating and GM has to do the mod to them at say $ 3,000.00 per car (their cost now), that's only $ 15 million loonies.... GM has saved $ 85 million.... Shareholders are happy, management is happy, 5,000 drivers aren't ...
So what. Give them each $ 10,000.00 in a class action lawsuit settlement for having to limp their car off the track until it cools down and GM is still ahead $ 35 million....
And that 35 mil will pay the company presidents bonus this year for making the right decision....
Now lets talk about the A8's third gear bump and slip....
