Hi, everyone.

New to CCF, looking for a Corvette in 2017/2018. No rush, but I want to get one of these before GM or US Federal regulations utterly ruin it ("the end is near!").

I'm blessed with a Porsche Boxster GTS with the 9A1 flat six before they ruined it with the new turbo flat four (blech!), but it wants a V8 stablemate. I've driven the exalted Shelby GT350 and although great in many respects, the C7 has it all over it in my opinion. I just love it.

Never owned a 'Vette, but I was six years old when the C4 came out, and to this day it's still what my brain assumes is a proper sports car profile. It's beautiful.

Hoping to be a member for a long time, and possibly make some new local (and not so local) friends along the way.

Please help me in my quest to secure the right C7 for me. Definitely coupe, manual; what remains to be seen is Z51 or GS, depending on price. Probably a 2LT, but I'd be willing to break the bank if I could swing a 3LT with the Spice Red interior package. So much fun choosing and customizing. I had a blast doing the same with my 981 GTS and ended up with a pretty unique package inside and out.

Another option is getting a C4 to work on and restomod, and pocket the savings for a cheaper Mustang daily (it fits a rear facing back seat!).

I can provide pics of the GTS if anyone's interested.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a plan for the Corvette so it will be interesting to see what transpires.

Best of luck, enjoy the Porsche.

You know I just have to ask...have you considered the Z06 at all?

Hahaha. Nice one Les! Making us all drool over your Z06. :D

I vote for pics of the Porsche!

It shouldn't be too difficult to secure a Z51, but the new GS may be a little tougher to get as it's the new kid on the block. My suggestion, which isn't much of a suggestion, is to start calling dealerships and finding an allocation for the GS and getting a deposit put down early.

And, welcome to the forum!!!! We too hope you'll be a member here for a very long time.

Wow so many choices and so little time. Years ago I had several Corvettes including a C4 and liked them all but migrated off to Asian sports tourers and other fun cars including a Porsche 944 Turbo which was fast and fun but troublesome. Finally came back to Corvette two years ago and got a new C7 - 2014 Z51 2LT, manual transmission. Put 36,000 great km on it. completely trouble free. Best of all it was also a comfortable tourer with a number of multi day trips with room for luggage and we could still take off and stow the roof. Unexpectedly received an excellent trade in offer from dealer in May on a new GS so gave them my Z51 then and ordered the new GS. Expect delivery around the end of August or early September. Start up of production of manual transmission coupes is four weeks later than others so a bit more delay in delivery. Rumour has it that this is due to high demand for automatics. In addition to the 2LT GS I have ordered chrome wheels, red calipers, navigation which includes the performance data recorder and the Heritage package. Colour is the new Watkins Glen grey which is very similar to my 2014 Cyber grey. The GS package already includes all of the Z51 upgrades plus the magnetic selective ride which is a must if you want to long distance tour in comfort. Once price is announced I expect it to be in high $80k range. I selected the GS this time around because it included most of the options I had added to my 2014 Z51 included in the GS price plus it was clad in that great Z06 body style with a little more aggressive look than the Z51. I couldn't justify the extra $20k+ for the Z06 for the relatively small increase in performance - no question you can feel the difference but the Z51 is already a brutally fast well rounded car. Your choice really comes back to what you want to do with the car and your ability to pay. In order to enjoy the full potential of either model you really have to take it to the track as you can easily navigate almost any secondary road at double the legal limit. There is no question in my mind that the C7 is a game changer for Corvette in terms of all round performance, styling, interior fit and finish and long distance driving comfort and at a relatively reasonable price. If you are looking for a "deal" on price good luck on a 2017. MSRP plus freight is the going rate. You might get them to remove the "dealer documentation" charge of $300-$500. The more critical consideration when ordering is finding a dealer who has a good allocation from the factory. Look for the top 4-5 Corvette selling dealers and concentrate on them otherwise you could wait months for your order to be filled. There are some small discounts available on some 2016 models that are on dealer lots now but you may have to accept some expensive largely cosmetic options that you would not normally have paid for. There was a thread last week talking about the small discounts now starting to appear for 2016 models. Going to the US is not an option since once you factor in the exchange rate the car is cheaper here, even if you could find a dealer who would sell you a new car in the US.

Thank you!

I know I gotta have the Z51, the question is, do I Grand Sport it?

I know what my problem is: I have a relatively modest build planned out for a Z51 narrow body in Arctic White, but if I go Grand Sport I'm either going to go for Black Rose or balls out Long Beach Red WITH the Spice Red interior (pure porn). This could get ugly (for my wallet).

You know I just have to ask...have you considered the Z06 at all?
Very lovely car you have, but no, I have not considered the Z06. Reason being I like to keep my foot in it for longer than a half second before risking getting impounded, impaling myself on elk horns, or nose diving a few thousand feet off a mountain side.

Pics of the Porsche, did you say? :)

These are just a couple of quick snaps from a recent trip from Van Island to Tete Jaune Cache. I drive this thing hard.

Thanks for your input. All of you. I realize it's going to be harder to get a GS vs a Z51, but the GTS is rarer than either, and I got a deal on that (I went all the way to London, Ont to order it, and drove it back). Plus, I *am* waiting until 2018MY, so I have some time, I think, to survey what happens.

Great pictures, your Porsche is a very nice looking car and the background is not too shabby either. Very nice.

Good luck with your decision on the Corvette……so many ways to build a great car.

Welcome. I just read a post on another forum regarding the new GS. They writer says it is faster then the Z51???? Not sure how this is possible since it is the same motor and actually the GS is heavier. I have a 2015 white z51 M7. Very happy with the car. I've added a few mods to about 515 hp and 50 lbs lighter. The GS looks very nice, especially the wider rear end. Either way you choose, you will be delighted with the C7. Enjoy the wait.

Apparently the GS is microscopicly faster because of the better grip of the rear tires which are 2" wider than the Z51.
By the way Canadian prices out on the base GS today. $75,895 plus freight which is about $6k more than the Z51 but the GS includes the Magnetic Selective ride which is a must have option which costs another $2k on the Z51. GS has the 14" brakes vs the Z51 13" and that great body style and the wider tires. Is all that worth the extra $4k or so? For me it is.
