It's happening every day. Keep your wits about you and ask lots of questions before buying.

Many years ago, I traded in a car. About a month or so later I saw the car on the street. It had been painted and sold. The speedometer had been turned back 30K miles. The dealership isn't around any more and this is probably good. You really have to be careful. With our 2005 Corvette, I can have the IP cluster out and back in in less than half an hour, so it isn't much of a job to do. Changing out the main computer wouldn't be much of a job either. You have to know what you are looking for or have a person with you who does know when buying a car. There is generally a reason for low prices. You also have to watch for salvage titles and anything that has had flood damage. The computer systems don't survive very well.

Good catch. I can quite see shopping for a ride, especially a corvette, is quite involved, and can be quite risky.
Best to have someone along who knows what's what.

i'm always leery when there are no interior shots. you can tell alot from the wear of things that see alot of repetitive use. switches, upholstery, pedals, etc.

It's amazing that the last bid is as high as $10,000, when the whole odometer history is right there for anyone to see. Glad I paid a little more for my one owner car. And was able to verify the mileage from getting it from the GM dealers where he got his oil changes done through the years.

We had a local guy selling a Bricklin with only 400 miles on it!!!! It had an awful lot of wear on the pedals for only 400 miles! I don't think it ever occurred to them that you could wrap an odometer with only 5 digits!
