CCF Members,
As of today we are opening up a beta version of our events calendar. You should be able to now see a new Events tab in your navigation menu.
The functionality is fairly basic at the moment but as per our plans will be improved upon. Key features supported today:
1. Fully functional calendar with month, week and day (agenda) view where all events will be displayed
2. User birthdays will also be tagged as events based on what you put down in your profile
3. Upcoming events side boxes on the main forum pages and the forum home page
4. Ability to create events, specify a location (which will be mapped automatically), start/end times (using a datepicker)
5. New event threads will be automatically created (and linked) in the Events forum
6. Ability to assign and remove event administrators and moderators
7. Ability to search events and view your own created events
Usage instructions:
1. Click Events in navigation menu when on the calendar view click create event button
2. Fill out mandatory fields i.e. event title, brief description, start and end time
3. Fill out optional location, be mindful as google will attempt to map this so you may need to go back and edit the event if the address isn't mapped correctly on the first try
4. Click submit
Be aware that the start time will be defaulted to your current time so you'll need to specify an appropriate date/time in the future.
Currently you can also attach images from your image gallery or external sources.
Future improvements:
1. RSVP
2. Better mapping
3. Events near me functionality
4. Event limits on attendees
5. More customized travelling events (route mapping for cruises etc)
6. Better handling of media
7. Better date picker
This is a beta and a rough one at that so report any bugs or issues in this thread.
We encourage you strongly to start using the Events calendar for all future events as we will be transitioning to it over the next few weeks much like the Classifieds was transitioned.
The Events forum is closed for creation of regular threads so you will need to use the Event calendar to create your event thread there.
Enjoy!
