This is going to be an issue with these cars. Heard some insurance companies already suggesting EV cannot be parked inside an attached garage. Who knows what impact this will have on firefighters.

I subscribe to the NHTSA weekly recalls emails, and the majority of the recalls for EVs are "and might cause a fire" warnings. Many are accompanied by "cease use immediately, and contact the manufacturer for further information and remedial actions".
Usually the recalls are a result of some sort of a wiring defect, a water ingress problem to the battery compartment, incorrect breakers/fuses, or vibrational wear on insulation on wiring components. Some are simply heat related (overheating motors/batteries) from everyday use.
By comparison, when there's a fire related recall for an ICE powered vehicle, it's usually a fuel line problem. Pretty rare, but they do appear occasionally.

We are already developing techniques and equipment to deal with EV fires. My department is looking into possibly purchasing a new piece of equipment for this purpose. Just don't know if it will do the job yet.
I have been dealing with lithium batteries and their risks in the offshore industry for the last 30 years, these are nothing new, just bigger.
