Employee discount

I just texted a good buddy of mine who's the general manager at a GM store, he said, and I quote... Not even if the guy had naked pictures of me in an all male... I'm sure you get the picture

I'm not sure how this analogy applies I'm sure somebody somewhere will understand what it means my point is that I am a GM employee and I think I deserve a GM discount. I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot your friend would like a discount as well - for whatever activities he's up to

Ok got it. I've been in the business for almost 20 years, not that it means anything. When I saw your question I texted him. The reply was instant. He didn't ask if it was for me or how good a friend you were. We have a rather crude sense of humour but what he was saying is that there is no possible way that you could get the employee discount. No matter what. I understand that as an employee you feel entitled to it, totally get that. However, giving you a discount on a car that each dealership gets an allotment of, and that allotment is zero for a lot of dealerships, is just throwing away money and devaluing the product. Why give you, I don't know, 10 grand? when they can get it from the next guy no questions asked. That's not to say it's absolutely impossible, I just think you'll spend a lot of time getting nowhere, not to mention how many salesmen will hint that you can get it if you come down only to be told no after you drive there.

Yep had this conversation many times my question to them is how can you get an allotment if you don't sell anything? we know that the dealers in the states are honouring employee discounts - I've emailed them myself. and yet the guys up here want to extract the customer for as much money as he can - leaves a bad taste in everybody's mouth

Unfortunately for the time being this is a situation that GM created for their Canadian customers. Where there's limited supply there will always be markup that dealers will capitalize on.

Plenty of discounts and supply down south and until the Canadian sanctions are lifted we will not be seeing much movement on price.

Having said that I've heard rumours of discounts from smaller dealers that have miraculously received the odd allotment. It's not employee pricing but it's something.

And yet when I called GM Family First to get a number they told me that they were honouring employee discounts on Corvettes...

There it is right there! it's entirely up to the dealer whether or not they honour the employee discount and all this other BS is just diversionary tactics. the real problem is a disrespect of the customer

Definitely give it a try, I'm certainly not arguing against the endeavour here :) But again in situations where a dealer gets say 4 cars a year do they sell them at or above MSRP instantly or do they tie up some of their margins in a GM employee rebate (assuming that's how they get comp'd)? I suspect a lot would go the easy route but I'm sure there's a few out there that may honour it.

Given exception to dealer ordered arrivals, I am not aware of any discounts when someone wants to order via the allocation system, mind you it has happened. The best thing to do is approach it with an open mind and don't get burned out of shape if the inevidable occurs; it will ruin your entire experience.

If you are set on getting best value for your money, check out the Autotrader and be willing to travel or have it shipped. Lastly, remember that GM USA restricts the number of Corvettes given to GM Canada, this maintaining demand and the high prices...especially since the C7 has been released. There are many C7 owners, excluding us Z06 guys, who have waited well over a year plus for their order.

Good Luck

Maybe I am missing something here (seems to happen a lot) but why would the dealer not honour a GM Employee discount? Would they not be reimbursed by GM? I recall not so long ago that people were going the GM site trying to get a discount coupon for Corvettes from that site (up to 2K, by luck of the draw as I recall). The dealer can still sell at MSRP if someone else is augmenting the difference in price to honour GM initiatives.

What am I missing?

I know nothing about employee discounts and how they work but if you're prepared to buy a 'showroom' Stingray, wait until late in the year and find a dealer who has three or four still on the lot. Instead of carrying it over and paying interest on it all winter, they might be willing to honour the employee discount. Especially if Murray is correct and they still get MRSP compensated.

Exactly

That's because they defer everything to the dealer so they don't look like the bad guy. Kinda like when they have ads all over every newspaper on the latest brand new 12000 car, it always states that dealer MAY sell it for less. The entire industry is ass backwards where everyone just looks out for themselves

Wow, and talk about insane. I just priced out a new 2016 Z51 3LT at 83 grand. Theres one at the sale for the entire country. It has 18000 k on it and the bidding is starting at 82. A little off topic I know

My Z06 came in at $99600 new. I had it appraised after travelling around the US and Canada and after a $7000 repair to the rear end as we were tapped by an 18 wheeler in California. It was a necessity of the insurance company and all damage was superficial...replace and paint. The appraisal with 18000km on the car was $130000 and the insurance company didn't bat an eye with that. I was happy. I don't plan on selling anytime soon but, yes, Vettes in Canada retain their value well.
