distributor on 74 vett

before i tackle this repair i wanted to get some input, my rpm gage doesnt work, i know the cable is there and attached to the distributor but nothing happen, i bought a tach rebuilt kit, now is this a complicated thing to take apart the distributor and see whats going on in there ?????

Is it HEI in 74? Do you know for sure it's the distributor and not the tach?

No it's not hei yes I remember the previous owner telling me it's missing a coupler or gear in the distributor

No experience with the old mechanical tachs but anybody who has worked on old Camaros, Firebirds, Novas, etc should be able to help you. I'd suggest a Hanes manual perhaps?
