Weekend mechanic mistake. When I torqued the bolts on the thermostat cover, I stripped the thread and I broke one corner of the boss that is part of the intake. The broken piece is 1/4 inch deep, and cover one third of the thread hole. I don’t want to remove the intake to rebuild the broken boss. I was thinking to retap the thread, but I wonder if it will work with the chipped off corner. Any advises ?

A picture would help. I assume the sealing surface is intact. If there is enough thread remaining you could install a stud in the hole and use a washer and nut on the thermostat housing.
