Interested in what stats are as some people say you need others say such as GM say don't need
The front rads are A/C rads in front of engine rads. IMO having the A/C fins bent might not hurt the A/C but it will reduce air flow to the engine rads. If the screen density is too great it might hurt as much. I don't race the car, so for me it's a no brainer. I have them. Can't hurt.

I tend to leave my vehicles as the engineers designed. I think if I had enough faith to lay out this mini-fortune, I should at least trust the engineers. Also for some strange reason and maybe just good luck, but none of my vehicles has been in the shop for repairs and most have lasted a long time. I have a 40 year old motorcycle, a 25 year old motorcycle, my C4 lasted about 18 years and then my 2005 SLK350 just go traded for top dollar at 16 years old. Basically the only thing I do is follow the recommended service intervals and the SLK got PPF.

In Honda CRV world, many Canadians complained that the 1.5L engine took too long to warm up so no cabin heat. Many DIY solutions including cardboard blocking the rad but Honda did a really quick recall at about 1/2 way through the first winter, and changed the ECU and problem solved. I hope GM is as responsive to problems.

I have been wanting to get some of these. Has anyone gone with the external ones? I am not handy at all...
I have them. I installed the 2 lowers and the upper one on the right. I still wanted to open the frunk with the button. They are taped in and have not budged since

Murray, where did you buy them from ??

Youch! $500. I was thinking more in the range of $150- $200 (although Christmas is soon and I already have a lot of sweaters. hmmmm)
Ya, I would make my own before buying these. I have templates for them and you can buy the same screening from Amazon and use zip ties and double sided tape to hold them on. I tried making some out of gutter screens, but it was too flimsy.

I bought mine from customcargrills.com but haven't installed them yet since I'm still waiting on my vehicle. I got covers for the full front rads (large & small), order came to about $160 CAD all in, but haven't received a customs invoice yet. I've inspected the product, seems to be fine - black powder coated metal mesh + zip ties to attach

Inside mounting right? Not too hard to install, but is a little awkward.

I put the customcargrills on mine as well. Less than $200 all in for a set of 4. A bit of finangling since you take off the small bolts along the lower outer edge of the front bumper then lift up the corners, to slide the grill covers in. Then you have a tight space to work with so it helps to have "dentist hands" and actually, I used some "dental hook-type probes" (purchased at Princess Auto) to more easily pull the zip-ties through the grills. You'll need good lighting to see what you're doing so having the "head-lamp type", works great. You should be able to find YouTube videos showing the install and I think customcargrills has some...it seems everything's on YouTube these days.

I made my own from black aluminum mesh and rubberized aluminum edge. Turned out pretty good if I say so myself. I mounted them on top of the plastic grill instead of underneath. That way it’s easy to remove. I used black zip ties. Unless you look close, you can’t tell it’s a home made job. Cost less than $50 in total from Amazon.

Do you have a link to the black mesh, I was wanting to use honeycomb style mesh, but everything I look at is in the USA and will have import duties and high shipping cost

Would greatly appreciate some pics as I would like to do this.

They look ugly when beat up with stones etc.

Image is not mine, but for example:

Perhaps not the prettiest looking thing, but you don't really notice unless you look closely. And it's easy to remove whenever I want. And it seems to do the job, so for me, I'm happy with it.
