(Ordered a good used shifter)
Mike from "Dr. Knick's", in N.Y. gave me a lot of good advice on this project. The old shifter seemed to be worn. He recommended a stock shifter.

As the saga continues, I received the used OEM shifter. It has the overdrive switch on the top of the shift knob. My car has it on the counsel, which I like better and is more original.
After inspecting the new shifter, it seemed in very good condition. I decided to remove the mechanism with the overdrive button on the shift knob and use this shifter. These parts are becoming rarer by the moment.
This is a much more drawn out project than I had imagined, but the car should be aces when I'm done.

The notchiness with your shifter, (Viking), could also be the area where my problem was. It is where the end of the stick meets the levers and moves them for gear shifting.
Also, the short shift kit rods could have a bend that isn't 100% accurate.

Thanks for the reply and Happy Smooth Shifting...................................

Good luck with your project shark. Maybe take a few pics along the way. Might help someone else.
