NCRS Top Flight, Bloomington Gold, Original Canadian Delivery, Frame off Restoration
NCRS Top Flight x 3 and Bloomington Gold. Scored as high as 97.4%. (it has been invited to MCACN and Cobble Beach judging).
Assembled Sep 30th, 1963 in St Louis, Kentucky (the 1,733rd ’64 built).
Delivered to Gorrie’s Chev Olds, Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Oct 10, 1963. This was the 15th Corvette and 9th convertible to enter Canada for the ’64 model year (only 143 convertibles were delivered through GM Canada in ’64, or 1% of total ’64 production).
Tuxedo Black was optioned on 1,897 (or 8.5%) of the 22,229 ‘64’s built. It was the least selected colour in ’64 (and not even offered in some years).
Optioned with 327/300 hp, 4 speed Muncie with PB and PS (only 887 of the 22,229 ‘64’s produced had this option combo, or 4%). Power steering and power brakes were very rare in this vintage of Corvette.
When you multiply the 143 convertibles delivered to Canada by the 8.5% that were Tuxedo Black, and then the 4% that had the 300hp/4spd PB/PS option, this vehicle becomes a “One of One” 1964 convertible delivered through GM Canada. Yes, Rare!
This vehicle has a folding soft top AND date correct hard top.
It has, new for ’64, Am/Fm radio.
It is currently equipped with after market period correct knock-off’s mounted with Goodrich Radial T/A redlines (P215/65R15) a nice beefy profile for touring.
It has undergone a full nut and bolt frame-off restoration from ground up starting with a brand new correct ’64 “Vette Products” GM approved frame.
The vehicle will come with GM transport microfiche paperwork, pedigree of previous owners, glove box docs, restoration pics, letters from GM validating the Vin # and delivery, and a binder of ads, materials, flyers, and assorted ’64 literature including a history of Gorrie’s Chev Olds on the 50’s/60’s Canadian Corvette scene.
The power steering and brakes with the radial TA’s make this vehicle an absolute pleasure to drive (ask any classic car owner who does not have PS and PB how much fun it is to muscle their car into and out of parking spaces).
With a small amount of prep, this vehicle can re-enter the judging world easily, become a local car show favourite, or be your weekend beach cruiser. The only serious critique this vehicle could be given is that it’s original numbers matching engine (which it still has) was “decked” in the early 80’s by a previous owner, removing the depth and clarity of the engine pad stamping (see photos to view the engine pad stamping… the “4101733” has the “410” portion obscured with “1733 being still discernable (and more important)… the “F0912RD” is more robust and visible.
Only reasonable offers will be replied to. Interested parties will be met and interviewed off site first to determine if they will even be shown this vehicle. Bottom line – if you are not a serious purchaser chasing a true correct solid mid-year Corvette, who will give this Canadian piece of history a good home, and enjoy it as I have, please don’t bother. I am in no rush to sell. Fun Fact: Owning this vehicle will give you something in common with Bruce Springstein (see last two photos). Thanks for your interest.
